Does anyone know how to update the math in order to deal with irregularities such as multiple siblings/children, insest, polygamy, and/or reincarnations?

Well I'm very white, I don't understand how I could ever be related to a black guy. Not that I would have a problem with it but my skin pigment doesn't reflect ever being black. Something doesn't add up here.

The only logical explanation I've ever come up with is that we were placed here by the 'Gods' from different planets on different continents.

Did you completely skip over the logical explanation of genetics?

You also forgot to count in big natural events like the black pest, wars (that make WW2 look pale in comparision).

So my daughter has blue eyes and her mother had brown. I have green eyes. My grandfather had blue eyes.
Applying your logic, it should be the child of my grandfather?

I have a friend, who´s parents and grandparents were light skinned (white) but his skin turned out to be brown. Yet, he looks like his father (white). This does not mean his mother is not his mother, it just shows that genetic markers will jump generations sometimes, depending how dominant they are. Brown eyes normally win over blue or green ones, but like in my case, the blue from two generations before won.

I often think about how different animal species may have evolved through inbreeding,
first a population becomes isolated by migration, thus creating subspecies, eventually creating entirely new species...

Think about the last universal common ancestor (LUCA).

Hiya matey, it doesn't matter much about the shade of skin because we're all related to each other.

I saw a great C4 doco a few years ago that did genetic testing on these UK white supremacists. One was a racist London comedian and another was a female aristocrat and there were others I can't remember. They all wanted non-whites kicked out the country and celebrated the 'superiority' of white people. Proper, moronic, asshole supremacists.

Their test results are what we'd all expect to see too. The London comedian was related to a black guy as little as four generations ago. He was appalled and yet what else could he do? He carried on being a racist comedian and kept his genetics quiet. Crazy huh? Banging on about 'indigenous' this and that and being fully qualified for deportation by his own standards! The aristocrat lady was likewise disgusted to find she was part Berber Arab with a recent dose of Romany Gypsy lol.

My point is we're all made up of bits of African, Arab, white European etc. It's such a mixture that 'race' is really an empty term.

I've been very tempted to use one of those genomic testing kits that details ethnicities and % of Neander. It's fascinating to know what genetic stock is flowing through the family and maybe a flag or two for predisposition to certain conditions. What stops me so far are the ethics and legalities. There's no legislation to guarantee security of information or ownership of the results. Ben Goldacre even showed how anonymised aggregation isn't necessarily secure.

I think racism seldom comes down to true racism but more on a cultural level because of the differences in the viewpoints. Then the behavior is narrowed down to genetics, not realizing that their own genetic markup must be inferior because they´re not able comprehend that.

Yeah, racism has many causes with culture being a formidable one. Socialisation is another and plain stupidity is popular too from what I see.

The genetics argument was given breath during the twilight of the slave trade and its terms of engagement have justified many a militant racist ever since. Now it's used by many from Russia to China to the USA and we've got plenty here in Europe.

Your quote made me smile. We're similar to cattle in terms of capacity for being startled, herded or stampeded. I include myself in there too

As we all are humans and have flaws I think everyone is guilty in some sense, difference is, what we learn from it and if we accept our failure.

If you were to update the equation to factor in the incest effect, then you should also need to update the equation to factor in the length of a generation.

Going back 1000 years I would expect the generation gap to be more like 15 years, so that may balance the OP equation some way.

Just as a sideline, using the same 25 year generation gap as a guide.

Some years ago I worked out that over the past 500 years each of us have over 1 million "grandparents"

Below are the results of 20 generations.

I also believe the incest factor can be nullified by the 25 year generation gap to give a fairly accurate picture of our past.

2 mom and pop
4 first grandparents
8
16
32
64
128
256
512
1,024
2,048
4,096
8,192
16,384
32,768
65,536
131,072
262,144
524,288
1,048,576

After just 20 generations, pretty daunting isn't it!

Let's do maths.
What is there?
How many images can be seen right now? Do not separate the whole image into bits.
What is there that could be related - if it is one?

Err... The theory of Evolution has already proven that we are all related to some degree to ALL life on the planet. But good work. I guess.

Thanks for the OP..pretty interesting topic for sure.

It speaks to my belief that there are only so many naturally occurring variations on physical traits. Like anything you have extremes or anomalies but when you remove those and look at the delta , it's not hard to find multiple disparate people that look varying degrees of similar.

Well theoretically there are only so many ways that protein strings can assemble themselves. So EVENTUALLY evolution would have to repeat. Though I'm not quite sure on the mathematics and needed size of the universe for that to work out.

But again, since we, humans, are related to all life on the planet, having similar looking humans isn't that far fetched. Hell, to a dog, I bet we ALL look alike.

I don't do math....
For me it is very simple and come to the same outcome as you OP.
Adam & Eve = 2
Great flood "all dead but" = Noah and 7 more folks = total of 8 = start over.
So, we are all related using this form of math..see told ya don't do math.

So, in your opinion incest is a-ok? Because I highly suggest you ACTUALLY do that math, because what you just said doesn't work out. Plus it violates our species' minimum viable population level, which is around 500 (and that's if we used incest to not go extinct).

Good work. We can only guess

The following site sees it a little bit differrent

answersingenesis.org...

And I see it like this

After the great flood (according to Plato and with tolerant thinking: 12600 years ago) there were only a few thousand people left on earth. Those people were spread over a gigantic surface. They didn't encounter each other easily. Humanity had probably also the harshed time it ever had during let's say 6000 years following the flood.

+ there is something very special with humans: the negative rhesus factor.

I'm no expert but I think in the past there were far more people with a negative rhesus.

And opposite rhesus factors mean death for many children.

I think your calculation is a good find but it's not the way humanity evolved.

www.evawaseerst.be...

By the way: Yes we are all related.

Current genetic studies identify the female line going back 200 000 years to 'Mitochondrial Eve' with the male line (Adam) going back to around 60-70 000 years ago. Both of these individuals were African.

It means Eve's descendants survived through the 200ky whereas her peers and their descendants didn't. One theory goes that we were almost made extinct as we struggled to survive a vicious ice age. Geneticists think our numbers were right down to the low hundreds with groups/communities scattered thinly. 'Adam' will have been a survivor of that population crash and his lineage has survived.

We were basically technological with sharpened rocks, use of fire and spears. Of course, we weren't top of the food chain by any stretch and it's possible a virus or disease wiped out many as well as the weather.
