I don't really watch soccer, but I can see how the players have loads of skill and are great athletes and can appreciate the how hard they work.

That's where my admiration ends. The US women's team was just eliminated by penalty kicks. I can just imagine the Super Bowl being decided by each team getting 7 field goal attempts or the nba title being won by a free throw contest. Sports should never end in a tie!

So what would be the difference in the Super Bowl going into overtime and being decided by a kickoff returned for a touchdown? Not much . . . or perhaps an NBA final determined by a free-throw after the end of regulation?

As for sports ending in a tie, that usually means you just watched a very good match (or at least an evenly matched one).

I was watching Olympics on MSNBC the other afternoon and it was S. Korea v. Mexico. It was the most boring thing ever because the of the way the tournaments are structured. Even if Mexico had beaten S. Korea, they had lost by so many points to one of the other teams and Germany was beating their current team by so many points (10 to 1 or something - it was bad) that they would have had to win by a wide margin in order to advance.

So all S. Korea had to go was mainly play keep away for the entire game. They didn't even have to score, and it was obvious Mexico didn't even care anymore, so they weren't even trying. S. Korea did finally put a goal through about halfway through the second half ... just cause.

Of course, I was watching men's sabre too, and it looked simply like who can just lunge faster than the other guy with his sword.

Anything played with a ball is a game; not a sport imo.

So the nomad version of polo played with a goat's head is a sport and the hoity-toity version using a ball is not?

I have little doubt that I'm in the minority worldwide and soccer is really gaining momentum in the states.
I also noticed you didn't show a video of Manchester winning 4-3 on penalty kicks.

Bullfighting would be a sport if you took the spear away from the Matadors. Today it's just an assassination.

When it is your own team taking penalty kicks well I can not watch I hate them but thats the only way to end it...Golden goal was brought in for a world cup I thin (they play til one scores) and it was crap.
Penalty kicks are exciting even though I hate em but fine If you don't like the sport...odd how many threads pop up complaining about Football but no others....
Oh and it is football.

I think Ernest Hemingway was saying that some sports require bigger balls than others if you get my drift.

If you mess up in soccer, you don't risk death... well unless your loss causes the drug cartels in South America to lose some money.
