We've all known Writing Contests. Writing Contests are fun, competitive, and stimulates members to create something beautiful.

But some people are also very skilled at drawing.

I am thinking, a drawing contest would be a great way to promote the talent of many members here, and keep it fun and stimulating and creative.

We could do themes, just like in writing contest. Each interested member post a drawing of their own, and the winner is determined by op's S & F.

All we need is a mod to oversee the contest and determine the winners. A bit like what Tothetenthpower & Bigfatfurrytexan have been doing with the writing contests.

What do you think?

that sounds like a cool way to interact with the artists around here, and there's many good ones.
I'd be willing even to share one of my (very poor) sketches....

edit: I like the idea of theme, we could do a different one for each forum we have here (UFOs, space, science, politics, philosophy, religion, etc...)

We've had many avatar art contests before, even one or two banner contests.
And....I admit I've not mentioned one...we've not had one in a long time.
Maybe it's time

Is that what you had in mind.....or something broader.....or???

I can't speak for the OP, but I was thinking of something similar to the writing contest. We're given a theme and then we can submit some form of visual artwork within the frame of that theme.

Art can tell a story too.

So.....not limited to an avatar or background....or not about avatar/backgrounds at all?

I think this is a nice idea. Do a drawing, take a pic of it and post it on ATS. Of course, it needs to be signed by our usernames.

Instead of having a moderator judge anything, how about rating by stars? The most stars wins.

Yes, it should be members voting by stars.

Might even get me to pick up some pencils again.
I need a good excuse, this sounds like one.

I'd probably have to sit this one out but I would love to see something like this go on here for sure!!!

It's a great idea and I'd like to volunteer for any duties required.

There are very gifted members here and some have added hard work and years of practice to their talents. Time and again I've looked on in envy at the quality of the art that gets posted in the belly of the off-topic/BTS forums.

Categories? Tough. I'm thinking different types of medium like pen & ink, watercolour, pencils, oils and gouache with no set subject.

Or maybe set the subject? Comics, famous faces, landscapes, tattoos and something like *wildcard* where anything goes?

These are only ideas aimed at defining the focus because I know how hard it is to just come up with something.

I love this idea. It could get me motivated to pick up a pen again! I say yeah!

Question: Is it just to be line drawing or is coloured work something to consider in this contest?

As an example, here's a simple coloured drawing of my dad.

Not about avatar/background at all. Just a standalone drawing.

Anything. I say "drawing" but it can be anything, as long as it's not a photography.

If for instance the theme is "Wolf Head", then you can submit a pencil drawing of a wolf head, or a marker drawing, ink drawing, virtual drawing, watercolour, even paint.

I myself will probably be doing virtual drawing using Sketchbook.

That's what I have in mind. Just like in the writing contests.

By the way your art is beautiful!

Thanks for the compliment, swanne.

I like the idea of a dedicated subject, like a wolf.

I'll not be entering into the contest, but will be looking at everything posted as I'm fairly invested in art and may comment now and then.
