Obama says there will be a PROBLEM with next month's SSC checks!

According to an story on CBS Obamas is saying this.."I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,"

The article is from 2011, 5 years ago.

It wouldn't surprise me though if he were to try to pull another stunt or threat like that before he leaves office.

the date on this story says july 18,2011 how did he know in july of 2011 that the august 2016 checks might not go out?

I just hope they realize that if they ever did fail to mail out those checks in a reasonable amount of time, there would be a heck of alot more checks not being mailed out outside of the social security checks...

What I am confused about is how "deficit reduction" equals "raise the amount it is legally allowed to borrow" ? Isn't that counter productive? or do we need to borrow more money (from who??) to pay off SS because the amount collected from workers is less than is being paid out?



What happens to all that money every legally working person and employer puts into SS every month?

The funny thing is, when I used to type in "When will Social Security run out?", in Google search, it would pop up with one of Google's default answers, the ones that are in a small rectangle at the top of your search, like this one:

www.google.com...

Now, the rectangle doesn't come up. It used to have the rectangle Google answer and said the year 2033 or 2034, apparently they have decided to change that nice timing

Glad I've been paying into it for over 10 years now and will probably never see a dime of it.

It was supposed to be a pot of money we couldn't mess with, then Congress sold us out and they robbed the whole account. What a god damn scam they're running...

the article is rather old, and guess what, they paid the checks went out on time. it was a scare the hell out of the people and try to put pressure on the other side to do what we want gimmick.

they kind of don't have a choice in the matter since so many rely on those checks to pay their rent, buy their food, pay their bills, ect. and well checks that are mailed out on the 3rd of the month are to:

Beneficiaries receiving benefits prior to May 1997 or
receiving both Social Security benefits and SSI payment
www.ssa.gov...

so probably many of these recipients wouldn't have a stash of money to fall back on, since they are qualifying for SSI payments also.

so, consider just how many landlords wouldn't be getting their rent payment, how many stores would find themselves with a reduced customer base, how many utility accounts would go unpaid, how many banks wouldn't receive payments on car loans, ect... and then since all of these didn't get their money, how many others wouldn't get what they expect because the landlords, utility companies, stores, banks didn't have that revenue, and on down the chain...

all because the gov't couldn't pay their bills... and the gov't is obligated to pay back the money they borrowed from the social security fund as it's needed. so it would technically be a default.

Yea, I actually read the article, just not the date it was posted. I thought it sounded oddly familiar but was not surprised that it could happen today. That in itself is an indicator of the sad state of the government these days...
