I was talking to my daughter and some of her friends this weekend and I told them how we used to go to the county park as high school seniors and crack open a 12-pack of beer. It was perfectly legal to drink as an 18 year old American with your friends at a picnic table in a public park. They literally fell out of their seats.

Those were some awesome memories and ones that my daughter and her friends will never have because...well, I really don't understand why an 18 year old American can't drink a beer or drink in a damn public park anymore. It kinds sucks.

Freedom...death by 1000 cuts.

It's a rite of passage.

Destroyed by a P.C world, not to be confused with PC World.

Well, I would much rather drink a beer than bugger some blokes a-hole, but to each their own.

that's the problem, you see freedom as what you get or not, instead of what society gets

yeah the good old days. we once took a keg of beer to the local state park after dark to have a party (we were all underage). shortly after we got there a park ranger shows up.He told us the park is closed after dark and that he was going to leave and be back in ten minutes and the keg and us better be gone, we were gone in 2 minutes

OK, but let's think about it for a bit. Which do you think more people would rather do as a casual enjoyment activity?

Again, how much does society get out of the freedom to have sex in that manner? I'm not arguing that we should have laws against it, but I don't see where this is a good trade either.

There is no comparison to the simple pleasure of sharing a beer with your friends in the park and buggering some guys hairy buttocks. You are trying to derail my thread with your unpleasantness.

I don't understand why an eighteen year old American can't smoke a joint in their own home, let alone a public park.

I completely agree with you.

We need MORE freedom not less.

I just gave an example that I know you people hate, but the truth is now we have more freedom than before, perhaps limiting someone freedom to get drunk in a public place allow a bigger amount of people to safely enjoy that public place, in the selfish view of the drinking one they are taking their freedom one small cut at a time, in the general view all could be for the better.

Even the cops were cooler back then.

Now you would be tazed and arrested.

If you think we are somehow better off and more free then 20-30 even 40 years ago then I can't help you.

Maybe because as the mother, I don't want my house smelling like pot?
