This article from the Free Thought Project came across my feed this morning and in my opinion it's another step towards militarization.

This action by the NYPD comes after several officers were shot and killed in Baton Rouge and Dallas. These attacks on the police did nothing to stop police violence against against citizens. In fact, it will did the exact opposite.

There is not a police department in America that is spending as much money

The NYPD has begun a $7.5 million project to purchase personal protective equipment, including heavy ballistic vests and helmets, to further enhance the safety of responding officers in the event of an active shooter situation. Twenty thousand ballistic helmets will be distributed to all uniformed members of the service assigned to patrol functions. Additionally, six thousand heavy ballistic vests, which contain a front and rear level three panel, will be furnished in 3,000 vehicles assigned to patrol duties (two per vehicle.) Delivery of the equipment will begin at the end of the summer and continue through January, until all vests and helmets have been distributed.

This is war

Load n' load. The police are at war with the people they serve....

So by not wanting to get easily killed by a semi-auto rifle carrying lunatic they are at war with the people?

Guess so, never let a good crisis(Baton Rouge) go to waste.

Whoever posted that on their Facebook needs to be expelled from the force.

Delusions are catching up, these words and acts are of a FEAR based state of mind.

This is not right.. this is division, this is delusion, this is wrong.

This will not heal, will not bring unity, trust, or balance within society.

This "us vs them" mentality that rots in the human consciousness is ever increasing as it plagues individuals of the clear goal of unity.

Sad times.

Going by their own words, it would seem so.

Ah I made a post a week or so ago basically about "should police have these 2 things" and here it is. I can see NY doing it first because they are one of the largest depts. But in a way I am kinda retracting my thoughts. Yes I want them to be protected against these threats, but on the other hand, it is also militarization...I don't know....

*edit* Helmets still wont stop rifle rounds. But they look scary.

So you would prefer they just get shot up and do nothing about it?

Nah. If I were in that line of work I'd insist on as much protective gear as possible.

Stupid to do otherwise nowadays. It's not like they're buying bazookas.

They obviously and appropriately are concerned about being killed.

As of 31 December 2009, a total of 1,137,568 personnel were on active duty within the United States and its territories (including 84,461 afloat).[33] The vast majority (941,629 personnel) were stationed at bases within the contiguous United States. There were an additional 37,245 in Hawaii and 20,450 in Alaska; 84,461 were at sea, 2,972 in Guam, and 179 in Puerto Rico.

The United States Police force is estimated at 110,000.

The population of the United States hovers around 345,000,000
Once it becomes apparent of the disparity by the American Citizens that they outnumber the military and police by a factor of approximately 300 + to 1, the whole game changes. That is why the government is so set on disarming America. My guess, there are half of all Americans that are armed with one or more weapons. That is without the use of tactics to disable vehicle movement and deny assets to the military or police.

Do your own searches for these numbers, their easily found online.

And when it comes down to it, how many military and police will refuse to attack and use lethal force on their family, friends and community. ?

Pretty sickening isn't it to have a professional agitator right out in the open not being dealt with.

Eh let them armor up, that's fine. But the more protected they are, the less the "fear for my life" excuse holds up. I expect a lot less civilian deaths to go along with this gearing up.

If the death count continues despite them being even more defended, then I have an issue. The goal needs to be to lessen the death count both ways.

Two small incidents over blown by media in decades and decades... and all of a sudden we are at war with each other?

Do you know how dumb you sound?

They (masters of wesyern established), really need to keep this division spinning so they can prolong their agenda in middle east.

Meaning keep the citizens at home confused, in fear divided against eachother, manipulated and draining them all (police included )...

So they don't have to worry about "at home" and can focus their investments and strategic plans in the middle east, most likely against Russia.

There is a bigger picture that is intentionally being blurred by the established, as to not expose their plans.
Look past the little face perception of your country, and realize their is a global game at play here. .. America is a big player making moves.

Don't fall for division, it only serves masters.

You cherry pick a part of his post and spin his words. Read his entire post for context. Even the people that intentionally kill cops are the people they serve.
Any of you all feel free to join the force and walk down the slums of Chicago with no protection. Military gear is required when you are up against these people that are heavily armed (that you serve).

If police can't adequately protect themselves then they won't become police. Then we are back in 3rd world conditions of mayham with the real military patrolling the streets. Careful what you ask for.

They don't wear this gear all the time... Just when there is an active shooter situation

When those are the words spoken by the police themselves, by their leaders no less, I would have thought that all argument on whether or not they are at war with the people is moot. By their own admission, yes, they are.

I guess cops should just let violent hate groups and criminals run rough shot over them.

No they are not. Ask the other 1.1million instead of one cherry picked post.
