I've never tried Spam. I wonder how many people are in the same boat?

I have.

Grew up in a smallish town, but the high school had a relatively healthy geek contingent who was in to Monty Python.

They invented Spam Fest!

So for about three years when I was in high school and before those geeks graduated, we had a day where we all had personalized t-shirts, got together and had a Monty Python movie marathon and everyone brought a different spam dish to share.

Spam Fest!

Ever tasted Tang - the old orange drink mix that the astronauts drank? haha

Well you've tasted it if you've ever tried Sunny D. It's just premixed Tang in a bottle.

Gotta tell you... I love me some junk food, but I try not to eat it.

Ohhh.....The plastic wrapped cream cheese danishes they sell at the gas station. Really, I try to avoid anything with grain or sugar.

Are you telling me I've been fooled by Tropicana!

God damn placebo effect. Taste better then most.

I guess I better switch back to Tang...

Any sandwich white bread that is totally square.

Sugar is in everything! So are "additional flavorings" and "salt". So I try to avoid as many of that as possible.

I am all for going to the Farmer's Market and plan around what I can find. Fully processed and aged cheese, try for cheese curds. As far as salt goes, use more pepper. I have a cabinet full of various chili peppers that I blend together and fresh grind on what I cook.

It does not always work out. I do tend to eat a lot of local tortilla stuff (burritos, tacos) and canned beans because it is just so easy and convenient. And I am not as cool as some (*Agustus*ahem*) and still buy my own pasta (both fresh and dried). But try to do as much as I can without buying jars or cans. Oh, and pizza (of course).

Does beer count? Or wine? If they do, I am a big, fat, liar and disregard this post!!

Fried Spam and eggs?

Spam Musubi?

Yea, that would be my guilty indulgence!

My only processed food concession is potato chips. I love those goddamn things.

I avoid them as much as possible.
One thing I cannot stomache is processed cheese, like cheese whiz. I avoid potato chips, crackers and store bought cookies.

I think they are most likely the root cause of all the diseases and cancers that are on the increase. Our bodies weren't meant to ingest chemicals.

I avoid all of them. They are bad for your body. I was developing high blood pressure and total cholesterol was high up until this year. Now I eat only seeds, beans and nuts, whole grains like oats, wheat germ, etc., fruits, vegetables and fish. No boxed fish though. No sugar, bread, meat, milk or dairy products either. Blood pressure is down to around 110 over 70 and cholesterol is the best it's probably ever been. I had brown rice risotto and a nice avocado jalapeño dip for dinner. Good stuff.

I'm very fussy about cheeses (why I have no idea)... if it ain't the real deal, it doesn't go down my gullet.

And yet... I have a weakness for Kraft Dinner (specifically the Sharp Cheddar version, I don't like the Original KD) with all that powdered fake cheese stuff. LOL

Frozen vegetables I never buy because, ew mush. With the exception of frozen peas only because they stay nice and firm.

Frozen packaged fish we never buy just simply because we get fresh pickerel all winter long from friends who do a lot of ice fishing. And besides, once you've had fresh pickerel coated in a beer batter and fried in a cast iron skillet with lard, anything else just doesn't make the grade.

Other than that, I'm not overly concerned about whatever other processed foods we might be eating here and there... I tend to be a "from scratch" kind of cook anyways, so most of our meals are pretty straight forward 'country-bumpkin home-cookin' type of foods.

But life just wouldn't be the same without fried bologna, bacon, and Lay's Sour Cream and Onion potato chips !

From my cold dead hands, as they say...

Just one word:
All

And in case the one word was missed
Any of em.

I live in a prime farming community . With a Farmer's Market with local farmers. A dairy farm right next door.

I eat about anything. I can't stand ham salad though. It looks nasty. I can't eat tomato soup either. Just smelling it makes me gag. When I was a kid all I had to eat for a long time was soup.

I love cream of mushroom soup. It's great on steak or on a bacon cheeseburger.

All this talk about processed foods...

I'd give my left boob for an A&W mozza burger and onion rings right now.

The only crappy thing about living in the country...

*sigh*
