How long until early prayer is called? That should at least give a modicum of pause to the situation.

It was already called, about an hour ago IIRC.

Video of people dead on the street with gunfire in the background: www.reddit.com...

MSM wires (AFP, Reuters, etc) are reporting that this is over or failed (not seeing it right now) with the EU urging a return to democracy. BTW Erdogan won the last "election" with just over 13% of the popular vote. So I read...

That's literally the picture that's in my head right now. I'm surprised it popped up in the thread.

Looks like a major part of the coup, and counter coup is the silencing of media...

It may take awhile for viable information to surface... take everything you hear in western media with a grain of salt...

Let the smoke clear?

The first casualty of revolutions and coups are usually the media.

Yes, it would be wise to take everything with a grain of salt, however live streams are showing that things, while not turning out good for the military, are still in flux.

Financial Times (MSM) just published a profile of Fethullah Gulen:

www.ft.com...

I wonder if this was already "in the can"?

The "official" narrative begins?

Sure.. what part of "Video of people dead on the street" was ambiguous?

Sorry but the world is not a "safe space"... it's for grown ups.

Not accusing you of anything.
Just saying.

Erdogan has to be wondering about where the rest of NATO was at? Some tepid support from Obama and Kerry they are hoping to be rid of him.I support the coup forces against this petty little dictator.

Istanbul Police Chief says only 104 soldiers involved in the coup attempt, led by a recently dismissed Colonel..

Not sure how accurate that is, it seemed there were more than 100 soldiers involved, but the situation is a bit murky tbh.

Reuters is saying, (courtesy of plane trackers) that Erdogan has landed in Istanbul.

It should be noted too that the TV reports are full of inconsistencies, and that they are using use correspondents that may have an agenda. I heard one speaker on Turkey affairs talking about youngster soldiers on the bridge in only APC's when in fact there are tanks there, and I've seen that at least one tank had a soldier firing into the air, which is totally expected, and most likely a source for the audio sounds of gunfire on the bridge as of now. I don't think that troops would be willing to fire on people so easily, not that it couldn't change at some stage, since Erdogan, never mind asking people to go out on the street to support him ?? has also said that any coupe personnel would be facing the courts..(see what he did there) ?
In any case, whatever the outcome, Erdogan has been given the big message to not feck about with a secular state democracy as it should be.
Only question left, who's the brains behind it all? The coupe statements border both the simplistic and contradictory.

So a hundred soldiers are driving tanks, flying helicopters, taking over tv stations, and fighting in the streets of two cities.

I'd say MORE than.

I don't know, it seems kinda right...it's unfortunately obvious that a small group is attempting to make a change in turkey...but they have good logistics, which means whoever is behind this coup, had support from high ranking officers...
