Yeah he did train on his own dime.

Like I always say to those that don't want police to be "militarized," anything the police have they can too (which I think is good) if they have the money.

Furthermore, citizens can take weapons training courses which provide much more in depth training than the average patrol officer receives.

Any rifle round will defeat the vests patrol officers wear.

That said, I haven't heard specifically if they were wearing their vests.

Again, the fact that a rifle was used, vest or no vest, it wouldn't have mattered...

Yeah well, that depends on the level of the vest and the distance between the shooter and the target.... doesn't it?
A .22 Magnum can penetrate a vest that will stop a 44 Magnum.
There are plenty of grunts that owe their lives to a vest that stopped a 7.62x39 in Iraq or Afghanistan.

No doubt about that.
The govt, especially municipal departments can't afford anything like that.
It is a shame, IMO.

The vest the average officer is wearing under his uniform shirt isn't likely to be rated to stop rifle rounds. The difference in protection between a concealable vest and even a crossover vest, much less a full tactical vest, is pretty substantial.

A concealable vest with trauma inserts will stop pretty much any handgun round you can throw at it, but rifle rounds are more than likely gonna punch right through.

It would be interesting to know just how big this arsenal is and how he could afford it all. Apparently some time last year his legally owned weapons were robbed from his home. Robbed or given away to other activists? That is anyone's guess.

Yeah, there are some goofy things about this story. The other thread I linked to has info about him being charged with sexual offenses in the Army and the charges being dropped... not a big deal?
It is when it surprises your lawyer.

Most patrol officer vests are soft armor which is rated level IIIA. They can stop any pistol round up to 44 magnum.

Any center rifle round will go through with ease.

When I worked as a school resource officer I purchased my own level IV steel armor (for protection during potential active shooter situations) which can stop anything up to a 30.06.

If that picture circulating is of the shooter, it looked like he was wearing a tan Molle plate carrier. If that is so, it is possible he was wearing some sort of steel or ceramic plate armor that could stop both pistol and rifle rounds.

If he had said armor, the officers weapons would have been practically useless against him. Well of course, except for head and extremity shots.

That may have also been another deciding factor in using the explosive tactic.

Considering the fact that he was isolated enough to blow up with a bomb without causing injury to anyone else, I would assume he was pretty much neutralized and isolated for all intents and purposes.

He was no longer a threat and should have been allowed to kill himself with dignity and not used to set precedent for use of explosives by law enforcement.

Those of you who consider the use of this level of force in this country by law enforcement are naive.

Most excellent points ... all worth repeating.

I worry that blowing people up will become normalized in law enforcement. Only a matter of time before they fly drones against people opposed to them.

It's not a prescedent for LE using explosives. Philadelphia PD used a satchel charge dropped from a helicopter to demolish a rooftop bunker of the black "freedom" group M.O.V.E. circa 1980

The resulting fire charred an entire city block. I visited the scene.

That being said, although black movements like NBP and such put on a scary front, but at the end of the day, a white boy like me can move about anyplace in the city and not have problems. In fact, most here would be very surprised how black and white people can strive to get along and go beyond.

I have a hilarious story I may as well just tell. I picked up my Porsche in a bad part of the city from my mechanic, stayed late to chat...no big deal. I made the mistake of stopping at a random Chinese restaurant because I had a 2hr drive to my country home. In comes these young buck black dudes, pushing and shadow-boxing and being loud. Realizing it was a bad area when people were ducking in just to rolla blunt....there was a liquor store next door, and their friend joins them w/a 1.75L of rum. lol, I knew it was ON!

The guys come over with tank tops, and tattoos like spider webs up their neck...they were celebrating just killing someone, for all I knew. They plop the rum on my table and say, you gotta drink! I politely declined, citing that I had to drive. Dude said, no man, you can handle it. So I stood up and grabbed the handle on this huge bottle and drank while they yelled "chug chug" just like a scene from Animal House. So they cheered, went back outside....I slipped them $10 on my way out and told them to get some extra something-something on me.

It was some of the most fun I ever had. Also, racist joke night in jail made me laugh so hard I thought I'd die. You HAVE to get up and tell a racist joke in front of everyone. A good move for a weak guy would be to tell a white joke, but anything goes. It was unreal fun. In the end, it's all about your attitude that makes or breaks a tense situation. I'm by no means one of those brave negotiators, but also I'm not naive, so maybe I have an inherent skill. I was born in summer of 1964 race riots in West Philly were that MOVE bomb happened.

Luckily, people moved on, pardon my pun. It took that crazy of an event for people to step back. maybe this will pan out similarly....but idk, things seem to be getting worse, not better. imo this may be the environment of hate instead of LOVE like in my city. It's weird. I'm told it's different here by people in the music biz who visit. You can go to nightclubs and concerts and mixed race is just a feature of the landscape. I feel I've matured on the subject, because my country friends as SO racist....but they have zero contact with minorities!!!

But I'm the guy who wants Charlie Murphy and Samuel L. Jackson as Prez and Vice.

I like their attitude. I wish I could get a few of them to escort me to my local boro meetings.

I study public speaking styles as a hobby and use it as part of my own local politics of leveling the playing field between local corrupt politician and the public. I have no problem handling myself in a room full of people who want to kill me. I even worse a vest at times. My own noteworthy family heritage compels me to stand up for myself. Not unlike I would if I were of black heritage.

This isn't #ing Iraq.

They have scanners and sensors for use with those bots that can actually tell if he is wired, they also have gas canisters that render people unconscious -vs- rendering them dead.

Sort of ironic that the cops were killed because they shot someone and then the cops blow the shooter up.

They bring a gun, we bring a bomb.

MAdness!!! But the guy deserved every millisecond of his "due process".

Oh yeah, the cops are guilty as hell, right?

And why isn't this a hate crime, again? Anyone? Loretta?

That's why police and soldiers are discouraged from letting emotion influence their decision making process.

The police in this instance acted very unprofessionally.

Would you say they acted, stupidly?

I'd say they were quite restrained, for hours.

I don't think they would have ran him over with an APC or a tank if they had one.

Couldn't take the chance he was wired up.

Yeah, I have to agree with you, even though there isn't any credible evidence that he wasn't the shooter, he should have had his day in court, if at all possible. Even Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols had their day in court.

It is quite possible Micah X intended not to survive the night, however. If that is the case... he was quite successful.

Why are you calling him "Micah X"? That's not even his name. I don't have a TV and I don't follow MSM so I wouldn't know, but is this the catchy new name for him that they created that everyone is parroting?
