We don't know that at all, in fact it seems to me that at some stage humanity could have been far more intelligent than us

Considering the non-existence of evidence for this statement, you just helped confirm the OP's opinion.

Well done good sir
You have just repeated my argument

I said we don't know and you repeated it

God says to prove Him . . . as in take Him at His word and see if He will not fulfill it.

He also says to NOT TEST HIM . . . foolishly . . . like a 2-4 year old tests the limits of an overly patient parent.

That can lead to disaster quick.

He is NOT my errand boy and does not dance to my tune.

However, He delights to prove Himself mighty in behalf of those WHO TRUST in Him.

So now you have to trust God to be shown God? Isn't that the same as believing in magic so when you watch Paul Daniels it looks real?

Your belief in Paul Daniels isn't strong enough! You must believe harder for the magic to be real!

God.

God is . . . rather . . . unique.
Which one?

Spaghetti monster.

Is that the same as Flying Spaghetti Monster or is this another Spaghetti Monster? If I dared to be seriously impious I would ask "Are the two separate, or are they two in one?"

I just now got the punch line of a joke I heard 5 years ago. "Pirates!"

Yes, the one and only Flying Spaghetti Monster. The "Flying" part isn't needed to portray the greatness and sauciness that is......THE Spaghetti Monster!

I can only agree that faith and reason cannot be reconciled.

I can tell you this from my own experience from this last month.

Almost one month ago I told my wife we need to find our own home to buy. The one we were in was to expensive for us. I told her by faith we were going to trust the Lord to supply for us a house.

So I went to Craigslist and looked at some houses. I found on a mile away and went and looked at it. It was a mess but a perfect location and with a little work I could make it work. They wanted $69,900. I don't have any money but I called the agent and gave them an offer of $45,500.

A week later she said the bank who hold the deed needed it to go to an auction cite and put our offer as a bid. So the agent did that. For 7 days we prayed and spoke to the Lord that if someone bid over us it was not for us. the last day came down and it ended and no one bid over us. So now I needed to come up with $1,290. That very afternoon I was given a set of used storm windows that by the way fit the windows on that house. And I received in the mail a $6,242 check in the mail.

I gave them the $1290 for earnest money and by faith trusted the Lord to supply the rest. The title is now being processed and they wanted proof of funds. The day I was to give them proof of funds a person contacted us and gave us $44,210 and our agreement is for me to pay $600 a month for seven years and the debt and interest would be paid. This was a private person not a bank or loan company.

All of this was by faith. No reasonable person would have done such but one as I who has lived by faith for over 20 years it is a normal way of life.

So yes Faith and Reason cannot be reconciled.

sauciness that is ...

The joke that I mentioned was actually a miracle done by a god to serve as a sure sign of his/her/whatever existence. The kicker is that the miracle involved a mylar helium balloon styled into a pirate head.

What can I conclude then, now that I get the joke, but that maybe a purposely manmade god is as much a god as any other?

I hope he/she/whatever doesn't demand monotheistic worship. I have allergies to such.

So, lets see if I get the picture:

It's ok to have faith in reason.

But, you are not supposed to reason about faith?

I mean, how do you completely separate the two?

We have to put our faith in something.

But, if we exclude all faith, then we're unable to reason.

I mean, all reason starts from unproven hypotheses, plus then the axiomatic laws of logic, to then arrive at "reasoned" conclusions.

But what gives reason the right to start from unproven things, except we accept those things on faith?

Is there really a difference between reason and faith?

What would that be?

inductive reasoning and years of building up the equipment, materials, techniques, professionals, facilities, etc. if you want an in depth answer, then i would suggest you google the scientific method.

CONGRATS. GREAT EXAMPLE.

BLESSED BE THE NAME OF YEHOVAH.

May your new home be all you need it to be and may it enjoy the protection of a host of Yehovah's angels.

I assume you'll be stocking up on water etc.

Doesn't look to me like you understood the post you were replying to very well.

Or else it was a deliberate dodge.
