Common tactic, especially for the left. If you don't like the result, vote, vote again, and if that doesn't work the way you want it to, go find a judge who thinks the way you do to invalidate the ballot results with some kind of umbra or penumbra that emanates from some extremely loosely related existing statute of law.

Besides, I think they ought to require a few more signatures than just a paltry 2 million give the number that voted both in general and for the exit itself.

This was a cross party remain vote.

It has sod all to do with "the left".

Including Britain, 55 countries across the world are members of The Commonwealth, and all citizens from those countries resident with ‘leave-to-remain’ in the UK will be able to vote in the referendum.
Could you enlarge just a little on most points?

Remain campaigners are just sore losers. They knew the system was just simple majority and were happy to vote on that basis. Now they are crying foul.

In addition to the request for 2nd referendum , there are people like MP David Lamy (leave) who is suggesting that "We do not have to do this"; that parliament can stop it happening by having a parliamentary vote. This is all nonsense.

I am glad I voted leave.

The Remain campaign will soon find that the EU is doomed and there will no longer be any EU to join. We will be back to sovereign countries with own laws and economic system. It will once again be possible to observe diverse economic systems and learn from each other.

The EU is nothing but a globalist agenda. They collude to have the same economic system (eg VAT at the same rate - 20% UK, 19% Germany. 21% Ireland, etc). Soon same tax rate. Their objective is to stop us pointing a finger at a different country which has a successful economy with a low tax rate; or a completely different kind of economic system that works.

EDIT : mistyping now corrected

The petition to overturn the Leave win was rigged for sure but it will all backfire on them.

I keep seeing this argument online that 75% is needed for the vote to be valid. Why? Democracy gives you the right not to vote and approx 28% of the UK population exercised that right. Any presumption on how they would vote is just speculation.

I saw a silly comment in one online news source saying that only 38% of the UK population voted to leave (when you include the 28% who did not vote).

If we apply the same argument then:

32.8% did not vote in Scotland which reduces the remain vote there to 38.98%

37.1% did not vote in Northern Ireland which reduces the remain vote there to 35%

It is such a silly argument I am surprised that I even bothered working these percentages out.

I saw a comment on social media by someone who is supporting the petition that's demanding a 2nd referendum on percentage grounds.

He had a reply which said:
"I don't know this has already been considered, but I've just counted up exactly how many of the 382 UK voting areas voted to leave the EU. For some reason the BBC doesn't actually give this figure on their "referendum statistics" web page.
The total for the whole of the UK is 270 out of 382, that's over 70% in favour of leaving the EU.
If this were a general election that overwhelming majority would never be questioned.
For some reason, and we all probably know why, because it was not an expected result, even though it was democratically conducted, some people can't accept it."

The 'percentage' argument could go on all day.

I'm really getting sick of those who call the leave folk racist...I live in Bradford who voted out by 54% and every asian taxi driver or co worker has all voted out. I just got back from work and had a chat with a Pakistani born British citizen taxi driver and he said in his words "I'm really proud to be British we can all make us better and stringer now".
So please don't use race as a brush to tar the leave voters because it was nothing of the sort.

masses of labour voters voted to leave. This isn't a Left-right issue, and should not be portrayed as such.

Any self-respecting Leftwinger will of course oppose the EU. With their anti-worker austerity programmes and links to the extreme right in Eastern Europe.

The Establishment and their drone-like followers are upset. Probably fearful of their inevitable end.

There will be no second referendum.

Negotiations about the UK's exit from the EU will begin in due course.
These negotiations will take some time. Once completed a time frame will be agreed upon detailing the UK's gradual withdrawal. The withdrawal will be over a number of years - between 2 and 5 years.

During this time we will see a new Conservative Prime Minister - probably that twat Boris - and I suspect a new leader of the Labour Party - probably one who is more in tune with 'traditional' Labour voters.

In addition there will be increased pressure in some other EU nations for their own exit vote - France, the Netherlands and Denmark are current favourites.

This will set in motion the collapse of the EU.

European nations will then discuss returning to a Free Trade Association possibly with a joint defence policy whilst abandoning all notions of political union.

This talk of a second referendum is nonsense.
I try not to be alarmist or a sensationalist but I think such a move would bring about such a level of civil disobedience that we would be on the verge of another Civil War.

That the country is split is undeniable.
What we need to do now is put aside political party differences and form some sort of National Government that will put the best interests of the British people before the vested interests of the elites and the champagne socialists that are ruining this country.

All talk of 'whinging leftists' etc is absolute bollocks.
The Remain campaign comprised all the Establishment bodies, MP's from across the political divide, celebrity luvvies and champagne socialists as well as ordinary people from all walks of life.

I understand their concerns to a certain extent - but the will of the people must be acted upon.
Anything else is totally unacceptable.

Corbyn should've purged the Pro-EU Blairite parasites from the labour party when he had the chance. You can't have a left wing party with those people still around. Now they're going to unseat him.

Sad day.

It is being investigated for fraud.

www.bbc.co.uk...

Cheating bastards.

It has no chance anyway from the above link.

BBC political correspondent Iain Watson says the petition has attracted a lot of attention but has zero chance of being enacted, because it is asking for retrospective legislation.
Our correspondent says some referendums do have thresholds but those clauses must be inserted in legislation before the vote so everyone is clear about the rules.
