My heart is very heavy for my nearby neighbors in West Virginia. 20 are now reported dead and 300 are still trapped (in one shopping in Elkview which isn't too far outside the major city of Charleston). Many more are trapped in hollers, housing plans and neighborhoods, with roads, culverts, bridges WIPED OUT. Fires (yes fires happen in floods when gas lines rupture). Hundreds of homes lost; businesses gone. Power will be out (in high 80 to 90s temperatures) for weeks. 9.2 inches of rain fell in less than 48 hours.

State Police, FEMA and volunteer fire fighters are BOATING (in many cases) door to door marking still standing homes w/x's (for inhabited).

www.timeswv.com...

I know BREXIT, and politics and the NBA draft and....

But I can't help think that the story (poor, rural people) loosing everything (on top of the US governments sanctions that have pretty much destroyed the main WV industry--coal!) doesn't seem "important" to the powers that be. So media coverage has been slight.

Please send prayers and good thoughts their way. Their tragedy is missing the MSM news cycle.

Another unprecedented weather disaster predicted by scientists as a consequence of global warming.

When are we going to start holding people accountable for destroying our country? I think we should give these poor people reparations directly from the pockets of CEOs and anti global warming activists.

Uhhhhh . . . I don't think that things are warming is in great controversy.

The controversy is over the

scam/propaganda/hoax that people are adding significantly to natural causes bringing it about.

. . . as well as the scam, idiocy that people COULD DO OR COULD HAVE EVER DONE

anything

to stop it or significantly lessen it.

I live in Summersville , Nicholas County Wv. I lucked out and live up on a hill. But many people were not so lucky. Walmart and parking lots are full of RV's and campers of the people who lost their homes. Some houses were totally flooded up to the roof tops.

I have lived here all my life and I have never seen a disaster this bad here. Its going to take alot of time and money to recover from this.

I am glad to learn CNN is covering this. Volunteers and relief efforts are starting up in SW PA and OH. The amount of homes lost is staggering. Vehicles. Infrastructure. Entire communities just wiped out or damaged beyond repair.

Is the collective national emergency response department just as ill prepared to response to emergencies all over the states.

We got wild fires killing and destroying homes in socal now . Earthquake season and hurricane season are right around the corner.
Where are the warning systems for areas in fault lines, or prone to flash floods or deadly tornados.

I can't find much info on if 79 is open?

APOC so sorry about Summerville! I know it as shortcut home & OMG! speed-trap central.

That whole valley around Charleston is incredibly steep and a pinch point for the waterways. Anyone who thinks people had a place to go are insane. The water rose 2 ft per hour.

we got one heck of a down pour on this side of the mountains, along with quite a bit of flooding, but from some of the videos I've seen what some parts of west va got was frightening!
sorry for the loss and hope they recover as quickly as possible.

Global warming has NOTHING to do with this. It is just WEATHER...

Furthermore, West Virginians are not stupid.

The flooding has been tragic... yes, absolutely.

Global warming? Not so much.

Even worse flash floods hit Shadyside, OH (across the river from WV) back in 1990. Look it up. No talks of "Global Warming", just a big ass storm that dumped a lot of rain at once.

ohsweb.ohiohistory.org... /1990_flood_albumPage04.html

Back then I ran 5 miles per day to get ready for USAF basic training. I ran to the New Martinsville locks daily, and you could smell the death in the air... it was nearly palpable...

They have opened up some of the schools, churches and fire departments for relief centers. There is alot of power trucks from Ohio that is helping restore power. I am on the same power grid as the hospital, so we are lucky . FEMA is suppose to step in, we will see how that goes....

Then got to basic training and found that you don't have to run much at all, but you do have to fold your underwear just right.

I sure didn't have much time to fold underwear, we ran 14 miles every damn morning at 4 a.m. But then again Marines and air farce are just a little different...

Huge difference. In the chair force, we put a bit more emphasis on strange things that became apparent a while down the road. But I have mad respect for Marines.

Tornado warnings work just fine. We were in the basement with a touchdown just about 2 miles due west of our home and headed our way a few weeks ago. I had my eye on that storm long before I knew we were going to have to go down and so did the weather systems.

You can't help it when people don't pay attention.
