This is incredible. It seems that the current US government has denied emergency funds to the people and victims of Orlando following the tragic shooting of close to 100 people by a follower of Islam.

What could be the reason? Well, this was the explanation from FEMA.

“Because your request did not demonstrate how the emergency response associated with this situation is beyond the capability of the State and affected local governments or identify any direct federal assistance needed to save lives or protect property, an emergency declaration is not appropriate for this incident,” Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator William Craig Fugate wrote in response Scott’s request. 5 million dollars cannot be released to help these people but we are spending billions each year supporting those who are here illegally. Our government is not even taking care of victims anymore. How can this happen? Maybe because it could be used to continue the investigation? He was trying to use the Stafford Act for $5 million to help support emergency medical care and supply additional resources to law enforcement.

Funds were released in Ferguson to the tune of 263 million. 230,000 went to Orlando...

nypost.com...

So, a group of people start a riot over a felon being shot and they get over 250 million. 100 LGBT are shot or killed in Orlando in a terror attack and they get ...nothing?

He should have given a blank check and dedicated it to Brenda Lee Marquez McCool. If you do not know who she is, and everyone should know, look her up. She made the ultimate sacrifice for her child.

Obama, you make me sick....

That's Obama for you! Scott is a Republican therefore no aid. Yet Obama will grandstand on his soapbox every chance he gets to show he actually cares. People of Florida should take note, just how big of a phony this POTUS really is.

Not sure what the funds would be useful for?

Money cant bring back the dead can it?

The damage was isolated to one building.

Thats not a big bill to pick up so the state has likely easly picked up the tab.

Its all well and good wanting the fedral goverment to throw money at it but were would it go?

Fergason was diffrent as multiple propertys were damaged and police had to be moblised at high alert for weeks incase of further riots.

Did the people get the money or the city for Ferguson?
I do think the money probably should have been made available, but don't see how those two incidents are connected in anyway.

There is no emergency in Orlando. There is no need for FEMA money.

If they had given it out then people should have been upset, denying funds is the appropriate response. The massacre does not in any way qualify for federal emergency funding.

Potus did the right thing here...sorry for the loss of life...a very bad gig by a sick individual. But it wasn't terrorism and to call it terrorism makes all the more wrong...don't give those idiots any credit for anything!
Cheers

In the words of the immortal Kanye West...Obama doesn't care about Gay, Hispanic people. What a shock...he talks the talk, but fails to walk the walk.

There was a gofundme that broke all gofundme records, it is well over 5 milion. There are local and state agencies assisting.

The state has a crime victims fund, as do most.

Not sure what else needs to be covered?

The clutter of threads used only to make a nonsense argument over a political figure you don't like is getting really annoying.

Congratulations!!

You just won the war on terror!

All we had to do was close our eyes and pretend it doesn't exist.

We should have thought of this sooner.

So I'm comfortable with the idea that Orlando's police department was sufficient for one terrorist/gun man...keeping with that logic why would they need what amounts to as a bailout?

Listen I'm not siding with this administration but I just don't see how states would need money for an emergency fund when it comes to this incident as horrible and as tragic is it was and continue to be.

Fires, Flooding, Hurricanes, collapses in electrical grids, biologic attacks, nuclear incidents and significant potable water issues I can get my head around but this, not so much...feel free to check my history as a member as I'm not a big supporter of this administration...

I could care less if it was Bush of Clinton or J F'n K...anything that is needed should be provided where there was a terror attack on US soil. This is not a power grid issue. Law enforcement is still on OT and working on an existing investigation. That is where funds are needed. I am not asking for money to bring back the dead. That is one of the most horrible responses I have seen.

Give them credit? They take credit we do not give it to them. It was a terror attack. To call it anything else is out of ignorance.

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that FDLE has set aside more than $520,000 in residual Justice Assistance Grant funds for the City of Orlando and Orange County to be used for overtime pay for law enforcement and equipment associated with the terror attack. FDLE also requested $2 million in emergency Justice Assistance Grant funds from the Department of Justice to help with similar costs. The Florida Department of Children and Families is also directing $500,000 in funding to local providers for crisis counseling services which include grief counseling, trauma support, and emotional support for victims and their families and loved ones.
www.myflfamilies.com...

Let me get this straight. FL. Gov. Rick Scott has set aside $500K for law enforcement overtime and equiptment, and DCF will set aside another $500K, a total of 1 million for counseling, and is asking the feds, for $2 million from the Department of Justice and 5 million from FEMA?????

Good on Obama for saying no!

On another note, I suppose if this shooting is determined to be an "act of terror", rather an act of crazy lone gunman, I don't suppose insurance will cover any of these folks life insurance policies, nor will they cover any property insurance claims either.

But is the police deparment struggling money wise?

If its within there budget then why is the money needed? Especially if the state emergancy fund can cover it.

How much of Orlando burned to the ground like Ferguson? 230K is more than enough to fix that club.

so should every mass shooting get funding of millions?
the country would be bankrupt, last count was one mass shooting, everyday, for over the past 1000 days.
or just the ones that make high profile news?
