are you suggesting ATS may be no more, sometime soon?

Has the occasional DDos attack become part of the business model around here?

Unfortunately. That, combined with ad-blocking, is quite literally killing us.

Don't forget about all that non-human traffic you have to support as well.

I guess it's unavoidable in today's world if you expect to profit.

Our massive "footprint" of over five million indexable pages means that we get a crazy amount of traffic from indexing agents and other non-human bots.

48 Hours of Bot Traffic
bingbot..............................893,181
yacybot.............................363,352
Slurp.................................348,853
AhrefsBot...........................266,109
Yandex...............................263,876
Googlebot...........................163,393
SearchmetricsBot...................74,776
Baiduspider...........................62,636
GrapeshotCrawler...................19,500
MaxPointCrawler.....................9,882
Clickagy Intelligence Bot v2.......5,617
NetSeer crawler......................3,054

There’s a few smaller ones for a total of 2.52 million hits on content pages from indexing agents in 48 hours... which is an average of 14.5 hits from non-human sources every second.

The above bot activity also illustrates why we need to have an expensive hosting solution: 15 hits on database-heavy pages every second just to satisfy non-human web traffic.

Ad blocking is the worst thing anyone could have installed. Free isn't really free. Ad revenue keeps most 'Free' sites running.

I am using Chrome, and only have the pop up blocker activated (built in Chrome) and I welcome ads. I block pop ups due to a link I posted on my Geocities site way back in the day. ...it activated over 300 pop ups. Pop ups can get evil. I was a dick.

We see ads on TV, while we drive, movies now, radio, etc. People need to understand that using a software to block these ads only cause harm to a company delivering these messages. Ad based revenue keeps many free stuff free.

To all ATS members, who use an adblocker, shame on you. I bet yall click on skip this ad on youtube videos of your subscribed members too..

Ad revenue is just pennies per view or click and it makes a difference.

But yeah, the site has been uber slow lately.

Sorry for the rant.

listen here brother, I jumped on you in that thread for - belittling a woman just based on her being a woman, calling her names such as "hon" and 'toots" while disagreeing with her, it was patronizing, and I had every reason to jump on you. Having said that, this is the second thread outside of that thread you have had a snide, ridiculous, quip to make directed at me, and that adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. I get it, you don't like that I corrected you, If we have a problem I think it would be best that you ignored me instead of following me in threads saying ridiculous things, and I hope for your sake you take my advice. With all that, I would hate to see ATS go the way of the dinos and am interested in discussing that and preventing that, surely we are both on the same page?

I have no problem donating to this site, and will, though i doubt my donation is going to stop what appears to be the inevitable end of ATS, which is why I asked about the timeline.

I know.
From the admin comments posted above and the fact that donations have been solicited for a while now, you're likely correct.

Well this sucks. It's like hearing the bank is reposessing the family home.

Shouldn't bots have to pay bandwidth user fees to sites to glutton their resources? Remember when the hammer was put on companies burning up your fax paper with unsolicited and excessive trash? Yes, it's like that and yes, I'm that old.

Say it isn't so. There's noplace quite like ATS in cyberspace.

I'm going to go drink now. It's clearly been too long.

Driving mother to drink on father's day, it is.

And I'll donate. Keep fighting, please.
Peace

Probably more like the owner walking leaving the tenants going, "um?"

I'll have to use my computer for something else now, I guess.

Coding. Or bookkeeping. Or something.
