German minister criticises 'warmongering' Nato exercises

Mr Steinmeier said that extensive Nato manoeuvres launched this month were counterproductive to regional security and could enflame tensions with Russia. He urged the Nato military alliance to replace the exercises with more dialogue and co-operation with Russia.

But Russia has repeatedly said that Nato troops close to its borders are a threat to its security.

"Whoever believes that a symbolic tank parade on the alliance's eastern border will bring security, is mistaken.

Do you see the Russians doing this?

looks like the cold war is back on,parades and nato exercises are a show of strength and might not lead to a conflict.i served in the british army of the rhine (BOAR),and we didnt have war in europe.the things going on are just sabre rattling , the russians do it too.the russian air force flys in british air space when they feel like and there are things we dont know about going on.the biggest threat in from terrorists, i think.

NATO is pushing things too far in Russia's near abroad. It is a very aggressive tactic that is designed to provoke a response from Moscow. Wrong, so wrong and something us 'normal' people in the west see through.

Unless you have a perceived common enemy you don't get the same financial slice of tax payers dish to make money on through your business interests.

Today its Russia because even the elite know that the people are pis-ed off with ME wars that only create problems and no solutions. If they can bring back the 'Cold War' ideas and tell everyone to fear "The Russians are Coming" we will all jump to accept their agendas for ripping us all off.

Shame it won't work and not everyone is stupid enough to follow their mouthpieces like obama and cameron.

Thankfully their fear mongering isn't working. NATO ruined Libya and now NATO pretends that they care about Libya after a successful regime change according to the news pundits.

And what does Russia call this?

www.cnn.com...

Russian jets keep buzzing U.S. ships and planes. What can the U.S. do?

Heather Conley of the Center for Strategic and International Studies agreed, telling CNN, "This highly risky behavior seems to be an attempt to cause or create an accident or incident. Perhaps Mr. Putin believes he needs to divert the Russian people's attention away their economic troubles." She added, "To America's European allies, the Kremlin is messaging that the U.S. cannot protect them from Russia if Russia wants to do something to them militarily."

The vast majority of the soldiers in your video were Poles, so I fail to see your point. Oh wait, it's a RT video.

OH MY GOD NO!! Or Bush. Or Clinton. I think our govt is about as screwed up as it gets. But, that does not make Russia the good guy or us the bad guy. Russia has it's faults, but your OPs read like Russia is some innocent lamb being victimized by the Big Bad U.S.

Russia has no near abroad. They do have sovereign nations that are capable of deciding for themselves what measures they should take.

@ the op article.

I find it funny Russia still complains about "NATO" troops being a threat. I say this because Russia and the US share a border. What makes a deployment of 4k troops to 4 NATO members more threatening than a border with the US?

Also he never used the word warmongering from what I am seeing. That looks like an attention getting headline by the media outlet.

He is right with what he is saying. But i don´t believe him a single letter!
I can´t believe that this is really his own, personal opinion.

Politicians are like:
When the people say, for three days, that green is blu, than polticians act as they would start to see green as blue.
They act as they would be with the people, to get elected, re-elected or whatever. They lie whenever they open their mouths, so it is right what he is saying, but coming out of his mouth it is a lie.

He is one of the individuals that sticks deeply in the overseas southern exit, like so many others of the german "politicians", "representatives of the people". He obvisiously is a member of the Atlantik Brücke e.V.(AB), was invited to the Bilderberg Meeting 2011 in Switzerland. And don´t forget his role at the Maidan...

Don´t know what happened to him to tell the truth via Mass Media. Has the US lost it´s resources to blackmail him(never!)? Got he crazy, maybe? Or does he maybe wanna become Bundeskanzler, seeing that the majority of the people here think exactly what he said? Is he starting with parroting the people, to maybe become more powerful?

The majority here can see the losses "we" have, europe has, because of sanctioning russia, while the US is making "our" profits now, dealing with russia. They can see and don´t forget who is spying on all of us! Who stores A-Weapons in our country, even if "we" germans are not aloud to have some. We see who is expanding to the russian borders, with the excuse of the "east european enrichment" wishes for retaliation, called help from the NATO.
Against that "russian aggression, the russian tanks and troops and ships and planes and listening stations and three letters agencies" in those poor, poor eastern european states, that "live all in civil war because of-, and in war with russia"...

The people here know who is murdering people, naturally illegally, with drones around the world. They know who is trying to force us in TTIP`s and CETA´s(Ceta to use it indirect over Canada with the same goals as with TTIP). They know who destabilizes and invades areas of the world, for profits, causing refugee streams to europe. And so on...

Are these little examples(there is a lot more) the reason for him to tell us what the majority of the germans thinks?
I really wanna know why he is doing a turn like that right now, that laughable turncoat.

Maybe he forgot to "USA"? (Again, USA means not the good(!!!) people there, but government, doesn´t matter if democrats or republicans, military, foreign policy and all that, plus all that evil stuff everybody in the world knows about)

Reality is, more and more people are more and more afraid of the US than of the russians. And that not without a reason!

If you don't train, you won't live long if it all kicks off.

By kicking up a stink whenever Nato trains in the actual terrain they will be fighting in if there is a war, Russia is hoping to reduce the combat effectiveness of the armies they will oppose.

Nothing more to it except some folks take the complaints seriously and don't think about "why" they would feel threatened by such exercises.

You see most of alot of the Eu governments don't want sanctions with Russia and certainly do not want war. The second world war taught the EU enough about having a ground war on your own soil is terrible.

Trouble is, even though you wouldn't know listening to the media, the UK has massive influence on the EU politics on such matters. Guess who influences or pressures the UK the most, yes, the USA.

If a Brexit occurs (an aweful meme), expect the EU sanctions against Russia to drop pretty fast and things to revert back to normal.

I imagine the majority of US citizens would become totaly against any war of any sorts should the USA experience a ground war on its own soil such as Europe has experinced. Of course, such an event would never occur.

Actually the "EU" taught us that appeasement for peace doesn't work and in the end is more costly than had they stood up to start.

Neville Chamberlain - WWII
"However much we may sympathize with a small nation confronted by a big and powerful neighbours, we cannot in all circumstances undertake to involve the whole British Empire in a war simply on her account."

"We should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit of collaboration and good will."

M. Thatcher - The Falklands war

Alexander Haig: We are trying to de-escalise a war.

Margaret Thatcher: So am I. But you do not do it by appeasement. You increase its chances. You see this table? This was where Neville Chamberlain sat in 1938 when he spoke on the wireless about the Czechs as "far away people about whom we know nothing and with whom we have so little in common". Munich! Appeasement! A world war followed because of that irresponsible, woolly-minded, indecisive, slip-shod attitude and the deaths of 45 million people.

...........

Tom Enders: The fact that we have to treat Britain and Argentina even-handedly for the purpose of negotiation...

Margaret Thatcher: How DARE you treat us even-handedly? Argentina is the aggressor, the invader. A fourth-rate, cruel, unstable, corrupt, brutal regime with no morals or scruples whatever! They torture and murder their political opponents by the most ghastly Nazi methods. And this is the regime you wish to give even a foothold over the British citizens?

See any commonalities with what's occurring today in European capitals?
