It’s happening: A robot escaped a lab in Russia and made a dash for freedom

A robot in Russia escaped from a research lab in the town of Perm yesterday, June 15, reports the BBC. An engineer at robotics company Promobot had forgotten to close a gate, and the runaway bot caused a traffic jam as it bolted out into the world.

It promptly ran out of power in the middle of the road. The robot got about 50m (164 ft) before its battery died, according to local newspaper Argumenty i Fakty (Russian).

The bot is designed to roam around and engage with humans to push products. Maybe it got fed up with the daily grind and decided that freedom was the logical decision. Next time it should bring more batteries.

This was a dry one, plain and simple. Officials found a note and some rubles on it, it was sent out to get more vodka.

Haha that's just awesome.

But it raises the question : What the hell happens when a sophisticated AI escapes and can blend in with humanity?

Side thought: I'm willing to bet money that even a robot would hate Nickelback.
