This might not be of much interest to American members, as you don't have (despite the name) any New York Fries locations, but Canadian members, as
well as any mall shoppers in Egypt, Bahrain, China, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Macau, Oman, Turkey, or the UAE might want to think twice before they order a
poutine.
Today, while I was doing my favourite thing, browsing the Missed Connections posts on Kijiji.com (the Canadian equivalent to Craigslist) I came
across this out of place ad:
www.kijiji.ca... .
It's an ad made by what seems to be a disgruntled NYF franchisee out of Ontario, who is claiming that sometime in 2008, after receiving boxes of
maggot ridden potatoes and reporting this to the franchise heads, they were instructed to destroy the produce boxes, but to wash the potatoes and use
them.
Now, 2008 is a long time ago, but I believe this person will go full whistleblower if any other franchisees contact with similar experiences.
Here is the letter (a poorly scanned photocopy by the looks of it) they have as evidence.
And a copy of the ad. Kijiji ads don't last for long.
Fast food companies practices never surprise me. I'm not outraged or anything, personally, I've probably eaten worse than maggot slimed potatoes
from my own garden; and people in some countries probably eat maggots on the regular...but who wants to PAY someone for maggoty potatoes?
A gravy smothered maggot-ine, no cheese curds, just extra protein. New, from New York Fries!
