This might not be of much interest to American members, as you don't have (despite the name) any New York Fries locations, but Canadian members, as well as any mall shoppers in Egypt, Bahrain, China, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Macau, Oman, Turkey, or the UAE might want to think twice before they order a poutine.

Today, while I was doing my favourite thing, browsing the Missed Connections posts on Kijiji.com (the Canadian equivalent to Craigslist) I came across this out of place ad: www.kijiji.ca... .

It's an ad made by what seems to be a disgruntled NYF franchisee out of Ontario, who is claiming that sometime in 2008, after receiving boxes of maggot ridden potatoes and reporting this to the franchise heads, they were instructed to destroy the produce boxes, but to wash the potatoes and use them.

Now, 2008 is a long time ago, but I believe this person will go full whistleblower if any other franchisees contact with similar experiences.

Here is the letter (a poorly scanned photocopy by the looks of it) they have as evidence.

And a copy of the ad. Kijiji ads don't last for long.

Fast food companies practices never surprise me. I'm not outraged or anything, personally, I've probably eaten worse than maggot slimed potatoes from my own garden; and people in some countries probably eat maggots on the regular...but who wants to PAY someone for maggoty potatoes?

A gravy smothered maggot-ine, no cheese curds, just extra protein. New, from New York Fries!

Forget the maggots. Why is it called New York Fries if they are serving poutine? I mean I know you guys don't like Quebecers so Frites du Montreal is out but that makes no sense to me.

I suspect New York to be the maggoty garbage capital of America, hence the homage.

maggots and cow eyeballs act as fillers for many fast food chains.

these are not the worst things either.....

even if this is on the 5 oclock news, do you think Americans will bat an eye, as long as those food chains put out some statement saying theyre sorry, most people will be eating 'chicken' nuggets in no time. (i remember there was a study that founf less than 10 of chicken in chicken nuggets way back, then they began bombarding ads saying 'now' with 'all' white meat.
they never said what was in them 'then'

thank god for the invention of * [the asterisk] it seems to be a deterrent in keeping people from reading disclaimers or fine prints.

Didnt Micky-Dee just announce that later this year they will be using real beef in their burgers. Like it was a marketing tool or something lol.

If you had any idea the conditions of, and the things we personally did at, one of the largest pizza franchises in the US when I worked there in the late 90s, you would be equally disgusted and outraged.

Hint: maggots, piss, food fallen to the floor and stepped on multiple times, etc..

Been meaning to write a book...

You should. I wouldn't be surprised or outraged, but I would be happy for your newfound fame and fortune. People love reading about that stuff.

Likely not far off from garbage that even the US uses in fast food. As anyone should be interested in this news. S&F, thanks.

Gross, I bet! I had heard about a local pizza chain where the dough roller would sweat profusely, not use gloves, drop hairs into the dough. It was known but no one cared.

yup, remember the mouse found in the chili at Wendy's....I had my stupid co-workers tell me how they let it happen....Seattle Commercial Structures inc...

the foreman said they were trading out ceiling tiles....good gravy and Wendy's never covered their chili pot at night....it was a mouse that was dead and dry.....plopped right in and the dumbunny wouldn't even bother to do something about it....night time after hours...we had the contract on 110 jacks boxes and 90 Wendy's....
