Russian government hackers penetrated the computer network of the Democratic National Committee and gained access to the entire database of opposition research on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to committee officials and security experts who responded to the breach.

The intruders so thoroughly compromised the DNC’s system that they also were able to read all email and chat traffic, said DNC officials and the sec

Russian government hackers penetrated DNC, stole opposition research on Trump

Looks like this was going on for over a year.... Now the Russians have a years worth of election strategy on the DNC, dirt on Trump, and what could be worse... information that could be used as leverage against either candidate in future US/Russia relations?

Still trying to let this information sink in, but it sure doesn't look good from where I sit..

If you think about it the only one thing that explains why the decisions made by politicians happen when they ar so illogical and clearly against what their voters want is blackmail. That is unless of course you count stupidity higher.

Also noticed that this includes both candidates...

The networks of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were also targeted by Russian spies...

This gives more weight to the previous claims by Russia that they hacked
Clinton's private server, which was also used for the Clinton Foundation.

Just what we do not need, compromised candidates in The White House.

Very concerning.....

Good, maybe now we can get to see some of Trumps tax returns and Hillarys private speech transcripts.

Sounds like another distraction based on the recent shootings.

I've seen so many gaps and errors in this Orlando shooting to not believe it was inside job.

Keep everybody on their heels, looking in every direction. Whenever America needs a diversion. .. "look at Russia. .. look at middle east... terrorists".

The conspiracy is right under their nose...

I doubt that.

If the Russians got anything on either Trump or hillary, they would keep it to themselves, and basically just use those information as personal leverage against them.

At least, that's what I would do.

I doubt that RUssia would compromise this years' worth of political inner workings, by releasing the goods...

I would think that the info is much more valuable as leverage, although it might be a good thing to have all these behind the scenes "pressure point info", that politicians hold against each other, out in the open rendering them useless as a tool for the DEM/REP's desire to control the honeypot that is our Fed gov't...

YMMV

Plausible deniability? considering the CNN clip, mentions Russian sympathizing hackers pulled this off?

Does the Russian gov't have the "hacked" info? I bet they do

Should really go back to the old days of paper and filing things away in locked file cabinets in securely guarded buildings.

Hard copy has weight... limited exposure if stolen... ask Sandy Berger

How much time did he get for that deal?

Now databases are being thieved at the click of a mouse and a gov't who's always three steps behind the ability of those who may want to seize that info....

Look at the DNC, after over a year, suddenly someone says "WE ARE BEING BREACHED!"

What is their solution? Let's call outside computer security outfit and help us shut this down...

The Feds are way behind in security, and have so far, instead of focusing on security, are focusing on convenience....

They should know better, don't they even talk with the NSA and how easy info is gathered with the policies our gov't puts in place?

OH well, just ranting... forgive me

Leverage can include skewing political votes during a presidential campaign, and it would be an ace move tbh... It's a help you would never want to reveal regardless of your side.
