Pakistani mother burns daughter alive after she married for love

A woman in the Pakistani city of Lahore allegedly doused her teenage daughter with kerosene and set her ablaze Wednesday. The incident is being cast by authorities as an honor killing; the mother, Parveen Rafiq, was apparently upset with her daughter for eloping with a man. According to the Associated Press, authorities said Parveen tied daughter Zeenat, 17, to a cot before lighting her on fire. Police eventually arrived at the home — in a crammed, working-class area of the city — to find Zeenat's charred body, which reportedly also showed signs of beating and strangulation. They arrested the mother and are searching for her son, who allegedly assisted in the killing, according to local reports.

Because brainwashing exists in religion. It's a very sad truth.

No. There is no honour in murdering ones kin, leave alone ones own child.

Jealousy probably played a part. The mother was jealous of her child, for having the guts to do what her mother never did, shuffle from under the chains about her heart, and do what her heart required of her.

For shame, that the mothers jealousy was so strong that she ignored the biological imperative and murdered her child. What an inhuman monster.

The rationale at work here is that the daughter defied the wishes of her family. She is not allowed to marry without their consent which they did not give. Thus, she is basically dishonoring them and making them look bad.

Culturally, they have to blot that stain on their family honor out. Usually this manifests as great violence and mutilation against the offending woman, even to her death. After all, men cannot bear the shame of dishonor.

This is how Romeo and Juliet manifests in those cultures. The two don't poison themselves. The girls' family kill her to save their own so-called honor.

And many of those on the left want to import people who have this culture and think and behave this way.

So I guess we'll see who supports and defends whose right to do what in the near future.

There have already been murders carried out by Muslim men in grisly fashion on their wives and female relatives and many conservatives have already wondered if they were honor killings, but then people like yourself tell us to stop being Islamophobic.

I am wondering, I believe in cultures like this one, the girl is usually betrothed out at a young age. the agreement has already been made, and that agreement was between the parents, with the young girl and young boy not really having much say. so, what kind of pressure did the girl ignoring that agreement and running off with another put onto her family? if she was betrothed out to a more powerful family, what the mother did might have been more out of fear for the entire family, weather she liked it or not.
