While waiting at a light this morning, I watched an elderly lady with a shopping cart trying to cross this big intersection. She had the light and was shuffling along, not quite making it to the island when the light changed. All these people started going in front of her, blocking her path, keeping her standing in the cross walk in the middle of the road. Car after car turing on the left arrow as she stood there, not one taking the time to 'miss their light' and let her at least get to safety.
You're right, America is going to get everything it deserves.
I keep saying we have a toxic culture and it acts as an operating system -- ours pushes materialism, fetishizes objects and preaches/promises false understanding and "someday rewards".
laws are per state in America and I'm not sure how it would apply if there's a concrete island in between opposite directions of traffic.

Is it not illegal to drive through a cross walk before a pedestrian finishes crossing the road? It is here in Canada.

Maybe what we need is to roll back to something like DOS 2.0 - it's not as easy, everything isn't spoon-fed with a graphic user interface. You actually have to invest some knowledge and effort into what you want to have happen, rather than just be a conduit. We are working toward becoming moving, breathing conduits which can access information and carry out tasks. Thinking and choosing will be looked at as inefficient, as the network knows best which actions we should perform, why, and when.

I agree. At the end of the day, I don't think people were ever meant to enjoy the ease of living that most Americans are accustomed to. We were never deserving of it, never worthy of it. At a fundamental level we're still just shuffling chimps with fancy technology and fancy ways of entertaining ourselves.
I eagerly await the decline and fall. It will be a great spectacle.
