A bill that would allow the families of 9/11 victims to sue the Saudi government has passed a key hurdle in the US Senate.

The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) now moves to the House of Representatives.

President Barack Obama said he'll veto the bill, but a Democratic Senator is "confident" he'd be overruled.

BBC news

So we finally look like we could be legally moving towards exposing the truth of the Saudi involvement but now Obama wants to veto it. Justice at its finest eh.....

I think they should stop worrying about protecting the Ritch Saudis and start helping to bring them to justice

Will add more but I am posting from my iPad

Obama would more than likely veto the bill? The bill that the elected politicians have sanctioned?

Of course he will he has to ensure the bankers are protected and all fiscal agreements with the House of Saud remain n place.

Money before lives, that's all it is about in the long run. Funny how Saudi Arabia was never mentioned as being part of the axis of evil, yet Iran and Iraq, the very best of enemies were.

Seems to me the White House is in bed with the enemy.

Obama demonstrates this by claiming to veto the Bill once it passes. I call this aiding and bedding with the enemy.

Be wary of ANYTHING this president states. Only believe after it comes to pass.

Just a way to get oil back to $100 a barrel so that the Canada & US can start making money again lol

Here in Canada low oil prices have hit the economy hard especially in Alberta and the same can be said for many countries around the world, this threat to Saudi Arabia will make them push back against the US by raising oil prices, exactly what the US and other countries really want so that they can continue to make money the lazy way through OIL.

I happen to agree with Obama on this. Isn't there some kind of legal process that determines civil liability? Has this process been completed? What about the massive amount of people who think the US was involved in 9/11? Bush involved in 9/11? Who's suing the US government or Bush? Who's really at fault for 9/11? The terrorist or the gate keeper who knowingly invited them in?

Obama was put in power to protect the guilty. Bush=Clinton=Obama=CIA. I never voted for Obama. Trump is the only chance to get rid of them.

The only time Obama considers the law is when he obstructs justice.

I was wondering how and if an individual could go about suing a foreign government. It seems the bar is set pretty high in terms of being able to prove criminal conduct, as well as the nation being designated a state sponsor of terrorism. While there is evidence Saudis were involved, I didn't think there is any officially "known" evidence the government of Saudi Arabia actually sponsored/directed the attacks.

I'm not saying they didn't, I just don't think the necessary hurdles have been, or would be cleared. This link gives a pretty good explanation of the requirements.

Here is my post on another thread. Trump is a Saudi puppet more than any other candidates in this election.

Well, Trump did denounce SA right on cue.

Obama wants to veto it, and from what I can see he wants to do this without justification. Does anybody have a direct quote from Obama himself on this?

Sleeping with the enemy me thinks...

15 of the 19 alleged hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Nobody is suing the the 'US or Bush' because at this point in time, why would they? I'm struggling to even understand what you mean.

The oil price has been climbing consistently over the last qtr, even without an agreement within OPEC.

Oil will never hit $100 boe again.

Canada's on fire, Fort McMurray is under threat. That is having an influence on your market.

And Trump says he will have SA pay the bills for any protection if required. Instead of the US tax payer as has been done up till now. He doesn't want Iran to take over SA.
