i live in a community with 4% black and asian (based on federal statistics). And a 48% split of white and hispanic.

i can say with 100% certainty that 'thug culture' has nothing to do with race beyond the typical stereotype. Thugs have always existed in every civilization since forever.

Yes
Thug culture is also poor culture. materialistic poor culture. black folks are disproportunately poor, and thats sad, and also why lots of people think thug culture = black culture because of disparity between them and other races..and tbh, at this point, they have to take responsibility for that...the entire black experience for the young is focused on the worst most toxic parts of being black..the singers demanding they push drugs, cops are the enemy, gun down anyone who disrespects, get rich or die trying, etc..that being programmed (keyword) into youthful minds as the thing to identify with if you are black, along with the supposed "leaders" of black community pushing the angry victim mentality over the self responsibility mentality...this is a toxic brew that bubbles up and makes entire generations lost..artificial segregation.

People can be poor and have principles, dignity, honor, and care.

Rule #1: you don't get involved in domestic issues. Call the cops and leave it be. I know it sounds callous....but lets take a hypothetical that has happened many times:

You walk up and see this situation. So you walk over and tell the guy to stop. He takes issue with this and directs himself towards you. You then wipe the floor with him, leaving him laying in the street drooling on the pavement. When the police show up, the battered spouse/girlfriend then claims you assaulted both of them and you go to jail for the whole thing.

You don't get in between love disputes because you'll find it goes sideways all too often.

Intellectually and logically, I agree with you. However, I once stopped on the side of the road to stop a large man from beating his petite, elderly mother. There were ten other cars pulled over as well, and every one of them had an equally large man standing next to it, doing absolutely nothing. Just watching, as if it were a show. And all but one had cell phones clipped to his belt.

This woman was covered with black bruises all over her face, neck, chest, arms...even her fingers. He had been beating her for several minutes at least. I walked right up to him and told him to stop, and he did. I weigh less than 120lbs. and stand 5'5". I was also wearing heels. This guy was a veritable giant.

Stupid, maybe. I'll accept that. But I could not have NOT stopped. He would have killed her, while ten grown men stood by and did nothing. That is jacked the hell up. I wasn't raised like that. You don't just stand by while someone small and weak is getting beaten by someone larger and stronger.

After I made him go stand on the opposite side of the road (again, I just told him to do it and he did), I turned to those men, now with their mouths hanging open, and asked if one of them might be so kind as to actually USE one of those expensive cell phones (this was in 1996 or so) and call the police. One of them finally did.

I got the lecture from the cops about putting my own safety at risk, but I told them that it didn't matter to me at that moment. I could not drive past, knowing that this woman could be killed. I had to help her. I'd do it the same way all over again, too. She was in the ICU for a month, with a brain injury. One more solid shot to her head, and he would have killed her. And she was his own mother, too.

I can't watch this video, because it will only piss me off and put a damper on my excellent day. But I can tell you without looking that I would not have just stood there. It's just not how I'm wired.

Thank you for this, and this is exactly what's needed across the spectrum. I was never advocating, nor would I, vigilante justice. I never once said anyone should have gone up to him and beat him up. Simply going up to the guy and going "Hey man, stop hitting her" would often times be enough. I've personally been in various situations(Grew up in a bad area) where I just go up to the guy and go "Hey man, that's enough, you won" and they stop. Of course all those situations were men hitting other men.

I've never had the displeasure of seeing a man hitting a woman, so I hope I would remain just as calm, but who knows...

I starred you because I think empty threats on the internet are pretty funny. I am equally disgusted that you can't handle an opinion you do not agree with without feeling the need to resort to violence way to go buck-a-roo, maybe you may be cranky because your up past your bed time but I will leave you with this, don't ever assume because you start a fight your going to win it.

even if it was empty how would you feel in that situation, would you cry for help while everyone just watched? this isnt a pissing match and without a doubt has little to do with a real fight i just wanted to know your reaction, so answer would you like it if you were being beaten to # and there was a crowd but they wouldnt step up to help you? do you get what i was trying to say, i wasnt threatening you just want to know what you thought

Who says it hasn't happened to me? Out of all the years I served in the USMC I am pretty sure I know how I handle myself. The point I was making was that the "Oh my because its a woman" somehow makes it worse then anyone else in a pc correct equal world is beyond me. I don't agree with beating on woman, then again I don't agree with brawling in the street either. I wasn't there to know the situation so I can't say whats what, the obvious thing would be to call the cops, but in some neighborhoods you don't want to be the guy known for doing that either. To be honest I don't even know if one of them even tried to leave the situation or if they were both willing participants. There are an awful lot of factors involved, but again I see this no differently then two people brawling in the street, my knee jerk reaction function does not compute.

so youre saying that basically after being in the military you wouldnt do a damned thing to help or stop it, coward. i have seen these things before and stepped in to stop it and even if i get hurt in the process ill do it. i am ashamed of my country that you would just leave something like that as is.

I wasn't there so IDK what I would do, I will tell you what though in a similar situation I did This. I am certainly not a coward, and I also don't get all pissy with knee jerk reactions over things I read in the news or on ATS. At this point I have all the time in the world to think about what should have happened, or could have happened, or what I would have done. At the end of the day I wasn't there so I do not know what I would have done.

Situational awareness, its hard to say. For all I know the area is controlled by gangs and people that live there know if they interfere its going to be them next, calling the cops in a similar place same thing may as well walk over to Don Corleone and kick his pet chihuahua in the face. In the link I gave you up above I had a guy break in to the front door of my house with his face, yeah true story dude busted in using his head and died a few times on my living room floor, my buddy called the cops and 911 while I was trying like hell to keep the kid breathing, when the cops showed up they had hands on pistols not tasers yelling at me like I was the aggressor. After the kid was defibbed a few times on the living room floor and once on the front porch (it was an OD) the cops started treating me like I was the one that supplied the drugs. The experience with the police has always now made me second guess calling them in situations because I may be the one dead, injured, or in jail so there is that too. Then there is also the people either just dont give a # or people there just mind their own business or are used to it and it is normal to them. Hard to say, I wasn't there and don't live there.

some situations can change a person, and just saying jail sucks. it wont stop my from helping in that situation, even if i were to get harmed or even killed or kill the other person. in a way your kinda right about me being violent so i moved now i try to live a quiet life away from people and problems, i still got to get out to work and buy beer and other necessary things

Hey man I hear that, everyone got something going on, but if the situation was right I would help someone out, but going off of this on the news/internet hard to say. It is def. not something to get worked up about under context of news/net. I'd have a beer with you though. Now I must go back to painting fruit lol, true story people want to see more fruit.
