I got married last August, and the girl I married was from Colorado City, and was a part of the FLDS cult for a time until she decided to escape that life less than 2 years ago. I've learned a lot about this religion and their beliefs, practices, crimes, etc - And may be able to give some unique insight that few others would be able to, not to mention have my wife be a resource within this discussion as well.

Anyways, does anyone wonder anything about this religion? I will do my best to answer if anyone does.

Cheers,

Deadlyhope

Sorry bout that..

My brother lives in Utah and I've heard some pretty funny stories about the Mormons.

FLDS is not the same as mormons, very common mistake. I believe she got rid of them, though.

Warren Jeffs, their prophet, was married to, and had intimate relations with many women that were underage, and also encouraged such activities within his member-base. He was also married to dozens of women total, sent people away from their families, etc - Acting as a prophet of them.

More recently, that church was found to be guilty of major fraud of government resources, like food stamps. Members were encouraged to donate all they had to the warehouse, even if what they had was obtained through government aid.

This is a Mormon church for any that don't know.

I would like to know why tickets to the Broadway show 'The Book of Mormon' are so damn expensive? We are dying to see it.

Do you believe all that pish about the guy reading the stuff in the hat etc? Utterly ludicrous sounding, the whole story. Strikes me as one of the more kookier new agey type religious organisations.

That's the LDS - Then there's the FLDS which is a cut-off. LDS call themselves mormons, as far as I know, the FLDS do not.

Not, I don't believe in either religion myslef.

No. Don't really care. I've been down the devout route. I just hope there's real facts here and not incidents made to look like it's their policy.

The normal Mormon church is fine. I have friends who belong. It is the FLDS and I think there ma be another offshoot that went to crazy land.

Hahah... Oops, I understand that this thread sounds like I'm "spreading the good word "

Oops. I'm agnostic, I simply know more about this cult than most people due to me being married to a lady with family within that cult.

LOL, the OP is not knocking on your door asking if you have 'heard the good news'. This does speak to consapiracy theory, in this thread, I think. Also actual crimes comitted by the FLDS in public record. Maybe the OP has more.

Oh yeah, my whole family except myself is LDS, mormon - They are just people. No plural wives, no underage marriages.

Very conservative in general, but not overly zealous or extreme about much.

Do they actually believe in galactic Jesus and do they think blacks are evil with no souls?

Whenever I've asked them this after being accosted in the street I get the vacant stare and the "come to the church and find out" line.

Thank you for understanding this! Ha, I'm agnostic and don't give two hoots what religion someone is or wants to be.

It is just at times a main-stream topic, as is the LDS mainstream church, and there's a lot of confusion, lies, etc about both churches. I'm here to attempt to answer all I can, based on the knowledge of someone who was not long ago within, and still has family within.

They believe Jesus is the son of god - but is his own person, not god himself.

They believe blacks to be cursed with their skin color, and don't believe they have a place in heaven, from all I've heard. Descendants of Cain, and "fence-sitters" in heaven are two popular reasons to deem them cursed.

There is an oddish story to go with it, but not anymore odd than any other religion. My religion believes Satan (not the devil satan) and his sister Aradia created the Earth. Christians believe an all powerful God created the Earth in 7 days. Both of those look a little strange in comparison to the Mormon story. lol

But, the thing is FLDS here. A conspiracy website wants the dirt the MSM does not have.

Oh the LDS story is quite... Hmm.

Basically God was once a human, and we humans can one day become Gods ourselves.

What the devil is doing, what jesus did, all of it is a part of a plan that is meant to happen infinite times - As in, once we are Gods, the story continues. We create worlds, we are Gods and create spirits, place them on a world, etc.

It's one of the more interesting takes, in my opinion - I mean the goal isn't some place, it isn't servitude or anything, it's to become a God as well.

I wasn't aware of all that, but still not any more strange.
