It would create jobs for sure, that is assuming we don't find a 'made in china' sticker on it.

The functionality is in question, what good is a wall when we have airplanes and liberal immigration policy?

Should a wall also be built across Canada?

www.foxnews.com...

Oh yeah, just building a wall and that's it. Nothing else.

Seriously?

That's the point of the wall. Immigration, legally and at all points of entrance.

Overstays and sanctuary cities. Employer fines, real deportations, E-verify, INS, ICE, Border Patrol all doing their jobs.

We will see the ripples.

We have stability and opportunity for those who put out the effort and take some of it for themselves. That's what we have. At least more of it than where they currently are. That's why they come here.

But don't kid yourself. There is money and opportunity there too, only not as easy to get some of it. The same is happening here as well.

The entire country was founded on illegal immigration and genocide. I think people forget that the immigrants are human beings looking for a better opportunity. Not to mention the entire western world thrives because of the exploitation of other countries.

No it wasnt Illegal to immigrate back then so your point is wrong. now we have laws and as such they must be respected. Also the indians Killed off a people that was here before them so dont go there. Also Most of the land was bought but th e indians had buyers remorse and got shut down when they tried to reclaim it.

You seem to have a whole different picture of history than I do, and my folks have been in North America since 1621. Why do we have immigration laws, because bigoted americans didn't want the chinese, irish, germans here in the 1800's.

Maybe not, so if regime change is not an answer, build a wall!

Transplanting populations with their cultural and religious baggage is not a solution.

Unless you're eventually happy to have a third-world future for your kids.

China does have a great wall, and how many illegal Mexicans do they have?

China has severe problems with illegal immigration. Much worse than the US does.

Trump wants to build a wall because he'll be giving the contracts to his mob buddies who control concrete pricing, price of materials and union labor.

It will be a huge cost paid for by us and probably Mexico too somehow. But that money will go into the pockets of Organized Crime who will also be making deals with Mexico's Organized Crime as well.

There is legal immigration and illegal immigration. I am 100% pro LEGAL immigration. It is the illegal immigrants that this issue is about. The situation is completely binary...are you here legally or illegally? That is the only thing that matters here.

Also, stop confusing colonization with immigration. They are different things from different eras and none of us were alive when it happened anyway.

If it's just a legal/illegal tag, then you should have no problem with amnesty right? That would make them all legal.

I don't like the idea of a wall. It would remind a lot of people like me who grew up watching the nightly news of people being shot near the Berlin Wall who were trying to escape to the west. Very few were successful.

I think the image of America will change with such a wall. These famous last lines of the Statue of Liberty poem have become part of American History...

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

This wall is going to be way too long. I'm sure if Mexicans have a will to enter the U.S. illegally, they will find a way to breach the wall. There has to be a better way to control illegals from entering this country than building a huge eye sore, and an unwelcoming symbol of seclusion.

If you aren't planning mass deportations, that cost will remain, on top of the wall.

We need to stop that cost from increasing.

You are correct, no one wants to create a realistic immigration plan. I had a friend who married a woman from Peru, it cost him 20 grand to legally bring her daughters, minor daughters, to the USA. This is f'n crazy.

It's all a bit past-tense, because the walls and fences already exist.
But the onus isn't just on the target country to stop the thousands.
It should also be on why some places get away with such bad governance.

But I'm not going to repeat myself.

Thank you, for a great discussion gentlemen.

He's got quite a few young and middle aged white guys too that are also pissed off and dumb as hell. Plenty of which I'm sure are somebody's "Baby Daddy" too. So they're not all going to die off any time soon.

Plus he's got a chunk of the Evangelical Christians supporting him too.

Every time I hear about the wall, I think of this:

Then I laugh and laugh.

I know, right? If the American tribes of the time only knew, I'm sure they would've done more than build a wall to keep their culture intact.

That picture is a prime example of why the US needs to do something. I agree that "the wall" is somewhat ridiculous, but at least he's focusing on an obvious problem that everyone else is either ignoring or in favor of because they see underprivileged immigrants like they do lost dogs on a highway.
