My Little Dictator

*Really not sure where to put this, so I'd appreciate it if any passing mod could shunt it into the appropriate forum if this one does not fit. And also remove this asterisked paragraph, too, if you'd be so kind.*

It's commonly accepted regardless of your ideology that the folks currently in control of the US... Well, suck. Not only are they mostly corrupted, they're also mostly just really terrible at their job. So, this is, essentially, a theory-crafting thread for what you'd do if you somehow seized absolute power in the United States, and were able to maintain it for two presidential terms. How would you change things to make the country less totally f*cked, and what would you do to hopefully preventing a similar thing from occurring in the future? Assume that you can get an essentially unlimited amount of stuff done (on the bureaucratic side, no putting people on Mars in eight years, though you can certainly get things started) and whatever you try to do gets passed. (You're a dictator, after all.)

I'm expecting to see a few libertarians saying "trim government to smallest size possible", but I suppose we'll see what happens.

Here are my own changes.

First Term Prime Directives:

- Repeal trade deals, they're stupid.
- Overturn Citizens United, it's stupid.

- Purge Government of the vast majority of "elected" officials. Might keep a few like Sanders, but not Clintons, Cruz's or Kasichs. Definitely no DWS's.
First testing intelligence/competence (don't want any drooling imbeciles) and morals (don't want more corrupt people to replace the jackasses I just fired,) replace with random-sampled set of Civilian advisors (offer job but don't force them to take it.)

- Shift half the military budget into scientific advancement of things like food production and cleaner energy. Shut down a lot overseas military bases that have no real reason to exist, preferably selling the infrastructure to the country they reside in if possible. (The United States is not an empire.) Probably leave bases in allied countries. (Such as Australia.)

- Call in ten or so of the best economists I can get my hand on who I know aren't in the pocket of corporations or special interests, ask them for the best tax plan for citizens and country. After doing so, send out plan to a further 500 or so economists to get a broader sweep of opinions and minor adjustments.

- Replace Imperial system with Metric system. It's stupid.
- End pointless war on drugs. Legalize Marijuana at federal level.
- Demilitarize police force, make cameras mandatory.
- Downsize or shut down NSA. It's useless.
- Revise tax code so it's no longer 100 pages of code and 73,900 pages of loopholes. Make it comprehensible by normal humans if possible.
- Fix retarded election system (no longer all-or-nothing, people vote for preferences.) Destroy two-party ideology. Delete electoral college.

Second Term Prime Directives (If First Term Successful and Re-Elected, hopefully not assassinated though that result is fairly likely.)

- Remove/Morph Obamacare and use Single-Payer, since it's better. Offer to do so in first term, but leave it until second if the people don't want it.
- Improve public education since it's awful. Instate tuition-free college. Same as above.
- Try George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, possibly Obama, Clinton, so on and so forth, for War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity, Fraud, so on and so forth. (Depends on what information I uncover within the system about their actions.)

- Try to convince a decent portion of the country (almost certainly unsuccessfully, but worth the attempt) to become Vegetarian. Meat
production damages land and is highly inefficient in terms of resources.

- Change guns laws. Mostly leave as-is. Anyone who commits a crime with a gun, or has a gun stolen which is then used in a crime, is permanently barred from ownership. (Appeals possible for latter.) Immediate family of person who commits gun-crime restricted to non-concealable weapons.

- Implement polished version of tax plan from Term One, unless implemented earlier with approval of economic advisors.

- Huge national elections to choose my successor, and other such things. I'll be telling the citizens often throughout the process that "It's important to pick someone whose ideology and ideas you agree with, but it's also very important to pick someone with decent morals who won't screw over the country and all of you for their own personal gain. Pay attention. Don't let them off the hook for flip-flopping repeatedly. If their reason for running is "I want to be in government" or "I want to be powerful", they aren't the right choice for your future."

- And finally, at end of final term, execute self on live national television with final words akin to "I fixed everything for you. Don't f**k it up again. Pay attention this time."

I've tried to split the terms so first is more government things, and second is more people-affecting things, but you don't have to do it that way. (And it's not a perfect separation anyway.) I've also tried to avoid things like Transgender and Abortion subjects with the assumption that they'll sort themselves out fairly quickly once the government stops actively riling that steaming pile of horsesh*t up and making them into major issues on purpose.

redirect all non homeland military back home, secure our boarders and upgrade our missile defense system. maintain a national standing army, redirect the NSA's funds and tech to spy on other counties, not our own. Homeland sercurity funds guns and ammunition would be absorbed into elected militia groups which would be formed by state, not fed, power would be given back to the individual state, fed power would decrease, and then a tax, eduation and healthcare reform of which i would have to consult experts on would be implemented.
Also corruption in goverment would not be tolerated max sentence for any law breakers and stripped of title,

the money saved on military spending alone could go to help the reform.

and lastly prisons would not be privately owned anymore.

Fire every politician in washington.

Elect people that don't want to be there.

Bring the 'defense' department home.

Bring back the gold standard.

Pack up the federal reserve, when we want loans we'll apply for them.

Allow Unions, let them strike for wages and benefits.

Make insurance companies pay people back that don't get in trouble.

All that money that got saved can be better spent on education and infrastructure. Put local people to work on big projects.

SHORT terms limits for Congress.
No more lifers.

Presidential candidates can ONLY be elected by popular vote. No such thing as delegates.
No parties.

imo.....Mayberry RFD would be a better model than Star Trek.

Change everyday to Friday and have all clocks constantly read 5:00PM.

Each citizen would also get a government provided happy hour kit.

Not the metric system.....getting rid of NSA might be a bad idea. all gov'ts need spies.

I think first I would target firearms and crime. Register/document any and all firearms that leave your own private property. If you get caught with an unregistered firearm off your property, you in big trouble boy. If you get caught doing bad with a firearm in your possession, life in prison. As far as prisons, Sea containers, stacked up, welded together, in the prison yards. We have all seen on tv how prison inmates exercise in their cells, they don't need the yards except for fighting. Closed circuit tv in each one for court appearances and visitation. You break it, no visit for you dumb ass. You broke your tv? you missed your court date, sorry fudger...

You can't really address crime without bringing up racism and inner city blacks. That is where job creation would have to come in. There is no hope for good paying jobs anymore. the kids turn to crime. So ending trade deals and imposing tariffs
might be a good idea. I dont know for sure

Health care costs are ridiculous for those of us that pay them. I would get experts to figure out the best plan,

Speaking of welfare, I would set up a team of spies, to go out and covertly check on welfare recipients. If you get welfare money, and have the latest iphone, new Jordan sneakers and wear gold chains, you got some explaining to do.

I think a couple new taxes would be in order. a small tax on wall street dealings, say .01% on every dollar traded, or even .001% would generate huge income. Also A tax on lobbyists. say 50% of what they want??? or outlaw them outright but some may be good. But the whole lobbyist thing needs revamped.

I would try to make it a law that if even 1 U.S. veteran is waiting to visit the VA or having issues, that any illegal alien demanding anything be arrested on the spot. Deported and maybe a finger broken lol...

Now some fun ones would be, if the blacks riot over a criminal being shot, my NSA team would rob their homes of their stuff to see how they like it.

If the ACLU lawyers didnt like my prison policies, I would set up a meeting with them and say 10 of each of the rival prison gangs members in a locked room.

Oh and kinda like the MAD policies of the past, I will destroy Mecca if there is a nuclear explosion anywhere.


I like this OP. it sounds easy until you actually start putting it into writing. You think you know whats best but come off like a dictator or communist or socialist or racist.

We could use a good pyramid. But most of those people would claim disability. Then we have to build wheelchair ramps,

Oh, yes, that's something very important I forgot. The prison reform. Privately-owned prison are an absurd concept. Privately-owned anything is always for-profit (unless it's a charity, and even in those cases it's often debatable.)

Making money out of putting people in prison is disgusting.

People seem to be under the illusion that a large part of the US military is overseas. About 97% of US forces are within US territory.

I've never actually watched Star Trek. "Prime Directives" just seemed like an interesting term to use. The things I considered most important to get done.

Even if the force itself is within US territory, the bases still exist, do they not? Bases that cost upkeep? Upkeep that could be better spent... Elsewhere?

Though if it turns out that the bases are actually payed for by the countries that host them, I suppose it would be fine keeping them there. However, the military budget is still ludicrous and needs to be drastically cut down, or at least allocated to more productive rather than destructive pursuits.
