Alright, this thread is a bit different. All I see are threads about speculations, stories, ideology, and hoaxes. The purpose of this thread will be for us to try and conduct a study of some sort. Hopefully, we'll be able to bunch a bit of data together and come up successfully with some results. What we're looking for are common factors between person views.

What are the desired results?
Trying to find common grounds which can be reproduced to one day give us a better understanding and who knows maybe actual proof of what we've all assumed for so very long.

It's a simple thing to do. Have you ever seen a UFO? Can you remember the details vividly? If you can just answer the questions below. If you can't answer them all, then answer the few that you can. If anyone has any other suggested questions which they may be interested to find out about they can post it and i'll add it in.

Questions:
1) What time did you see the UFO?
2) Where do you live(State,Country)?
3) What were you doing at the time of witnessing the UFO?
4) Are you a religious/agnostic/atheist? If religious, which faith do you follow?
5) Were you alone when witnessing the UFO?
6) Have you any mental issues?
7) What was your mood at the moment? (Sad/Happy/Angry.. etc)
8) Did your hair stand on end or did you get chills when you witnessed the UFO?
9) What did the UFO look like?
10) Did the UFO feel like it was directly responding to you and your actions?
11) How long did you maintain vision of this object?
12) What is your ethnicity?
13) Was there any big event happening within your area? Or event that had happened?
14) Was there any military movement at your place? Before or After
15) Was there any events world wide happening on that day?
16) What was the date?

Post the story as well if you'd like so people can pull more details from it and you can also include answers to questions that may have not been asked here to supplement details.

Let's find the common factors we can and lets see if we can possibly one day 'control' or figure out a pattern for the sightings

MUFON does this.
They have extensive archives, because they receive around 800 reports a month in the USA alone. Very detailed reports.
Does it all make any difference or have much of an intrinsic use? Nah, probably not.
Best to educate yourself though...

Questions:
1) What time did you see the UFO?

afternoonish

2) Where do you live(State,Country)?

Florida

3) What were you doing at the time of witnessing the UFO?

Smoking a cigarette sitting outside cloudwatching passively

4) Are you a religious/agnostic/atheist? If religious, which faith do you follow?

Agnostic

5) Were you alone when witnessing the UFO?

Yep

6) Have you any mental issues?

Of course not..but my other personalities are nuts
(no)

7) What was your mood at the moment? (Sad/Happy/Angry.. etc)

Indifference

8) Did your hair stand on end or did you get chills when you witnessed the UFO?

Not really. surprise works

9) What did the UFO look like?

It was overcast. only seen a very bright light moving over the clouds pretty fast. imagine a yellow flashlight on the other side of the clouds..or spotlight..big..moving across..just a fair sized very bright illumination moving across the sky

10) Did the UFO feel like it was directly responding to you and your actions?

Nope

11) How long did you maintain vision of this object?

less than 10 seconds

12) What is your ethnicity?

...I am white

13) Was there any big event happening within your area? Or event that had happened?

not to my knowledge

14) Was there any military movement at your place? Before or After

Not really, no sound, so wasn't a jet (air force base some miles away, occasional jets and choppers fly over..but they are not subtle)

15) Was there any events world wide happening on that day?

Hell if I know

16) What was the date?

No clue. It was years ago

Seems you are seeking out a position at MUFON

Anyhow, chances are it could have just been a really big meteorite entering the atmosphere and I was seeing the glow of it, but normally when they get very sizable, you hear crackling and even perhaps a sonic boom..but didn't hear any of that..so who knows. its ufo..unidentified, but I doubt it was ET..
just getting the ball rolling.

I did see, randomly, a mega orb appear one night while stargazing. went from pure darkness to a quick...camera flash type orb effect..slower than just a quick flash, sort of like the old school pictures where they have the light on for a few seconds.
It was most likely the first time I ever seen (or heard about) an irridium flare upon investigation...was sure it was the mothership coming to beam me away..sadly it seems unlikely.

I think the only common factor you'll find is that people see things , mostly at night , that they can't identify.
Unfortunately in all this time no one has come up with anything that could be seen as proof of extraterrestrial activity being associated with a UFO sighting.

Chances are if Aliens were visiting this planet they would do it covertly , we shouldn't expect to see them.

Early one morning as I was waiting for the city bus.I saw a large star
in the sky that I didn't remember seeing before. As I was watching it,
it suddenly moved, dimmed and then was gone. This was the early 1990's
when this happened.
I don't know if it was a UFO but as soon as I started watching it...poof!

Lots of data is already available and certain patterns have been observed in the past. NICAP has some remarkable resources in that regard. Here go two examples:

- RAND Report: Phenomenological Aspects (P. 24, Color Change Cases)
- Overview of UFO Cases involving electro-magnetic effects (EM)

The first link includes cases where UFOs changed color (eg. from white to orange, orange to red, red to violet etc.) upon acceleration and other interesting EM effects.

There's lots of information out there but structuring it and analyzing the cases is quite an effort. What's still missing IMO is a good interactive online database that is capable of displaying cases (historical and modern) on a scalable map globally incl. filters that can be applied (eg. shape, effects, amount of witnesses et cetera).

Hi, SuspiciousTom,

Yes, I saw one.
Yes, I will take a polygraph test anytime.

And no, i don't openly talk about it.

At a later date, a MUFON official told me, in person, that unless I can produce a tangible piece or fragment of the UFO craft, that they would not take my report.

If you will run the survey (on its own website) whereby total anonymity can be assured, where even ATS login wont be linked to the report, then I can proxy to it and complete a substantial portion of the survey.

I think it's commendable that you're conducting the survey;
what's the desired end state going to be?

Bit hyperbole unless what you are stating is full blown bs level stuff
UFO can be many things..a misidentified satellite, shooting star, airplane at a weird angle, ball lightning, angel, alien, interdimensional sleestak, etc..its a ufo..unknown.
I made a report to mufon and they took it all down, asked all the questions, and filed it like any other. I didn't think much of it, they didnt, just a database of anomolies in a certain area that may one day be identified as something mundane, or looked at sometime down the line as amusing historical footnotes of people seeing zetan crafts jetting around the atmosphere without identifying them

So, you must have been talking of like..unicorn driven mechadroid motherships that scooped you up and you fought with the galactic alliance against the dark menace from andromeda level claims for them to stop taking notes and tell you to come back with some proof.

15) Was there any events world wide happening on that day?
16) What was the date?

1. 2 during the day, 2 at night.
2. All 4 were witnessed in Pennsylvania. All of them were seen in the same general area near my house, which was near a small quarry of some sort and within driving distance of a military base that does some aviation stuff.
3. I saw one of them after waking up and going to my window to look outside, since it was a nice day out (ufo #1). Another was seen when I went outside on the deck to have a cigarette. I was looking up at the trees and saw it zoom through the sky (ufo #3). One of the nighttime ones was seen while driving around a corner; it disappeared after rounding the corner (ufo #2). The other nighttime one was seen hovering over a field next to the road as I was driving home. I stopped to watch it and it slowly floated away towards the horizon (ufo #4). Another car also stopped to look at it.
4. I'm not religious, but I believe in higher dimensions or realms of existence. I've had various experiences that can only be explained by this.
5. The only time someone else saw the same thing was ufo #4, when the car on the other side of the road slowed down to look at it. I was in a car with other people for ufo #2, but there was only a window of a few seconds where it was visible, and I was the only one to see it.
6. No
7. None in particular
8. No, I just thought of them as a neat thing to see. It wasn't scary or shocking to me.
9. Ufo #1 was all black with a round top and flat bottom, kindof like a half-oval shape. I saw no features or lights, it was just a plan black thing floating through the sky. It was close enough that I could've shot it if I'd been so inclined. Ufo #2 was just strange lights floating above a quarry. I would've brushed it off as being a helicopter if they hadn't disappeared after rounding the corner. Ufo #3 was a metallic sphere hauling a** through the sky. Ufo #4 was a single, very bright white-colored light hovering above a field right next to the road. Imagine having a spotlight pointed directly at you. It hovered in place for a while, and then slowly floated off towards the horizon. The direction of the light did not turn or change in any way, it was just... a bright light. It made no sound whatsoever. I had my windows down to listen.
10. Well, for ufo #1, it's really weird to think that I woke up one morning and saw a ufo hovering right down the road from my house in broad daylight. The chances of that are pretty ridiculous, so I can't help but feel I had some sort of connection to it. For ufo #4, yeah I kinda felt like it moved away due to me and the other car both stopping to look at it.
11. Ufo #1, a few minutes. I'd say less than 5. Ufo #2, a few seconds. Ufo #3, less than a minute. Ufo #4, somewhere around 5 minutes I think.
12. White American, a decent amount of Western European and Northern European dna
13. Nothing that comes to mind, it was a relatively rural area
14. Nothing that I was aware of, but we occasionally had military helicopters from the base flying around doing training or whatever. There had been loud fighter jets a handful of times.
15. No clue
16. No clue
