There is so much out there that is actually worth knowing something about, but there is so little time to delve into any of it properly.

To make matters worse, and to take away time I should be spending reading and learning about things that are good and useful, there are so many frivolous distractions.

So I've eliminatesd MSM from my intellectual diet. And I've never been someone who watches a lot of movies or TV series, so that's not eating away at time I should be spending with more worthwhile pursuits.

But then there's the Internet. I really need to clean up my act when it comes to where I spend my time on the Internet. Seriously, I got on earlier today meaning to read up on the foreign policy positions of the current US presidential candidates, and wound up reading list after list of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers movies.

Really, I just need a list of sites that consistently provide non-MSM news and info, and just stick to that list of sites, a discipline myself not to go meandering off anywhere else. There is just no other way to filter out all the time wasting fluff.

Sure, "google it." I know. But I happen to place a high value on the information you get from the old Internet - other people.

So, my fellow ATSrs, what are your own go-to sites for news, information, history, fact checking, how-to's, analysis, and just general edification?

Hi olddog,

I come here for news because I don't believe a word on mainstream media.
The library for history because I don't trust google.

Other people for fact checking, possibly internet search depending on the topic...same with how-to's, analysis and general edification.

At least here we have people in different countries, and often we receive first-hand accounts/perspectives of what is happening there. If I hear about a news item on MSM I will come here to look for a thread on the subject.

I guess I wasn't much help, was I? lol

I gave up on TV long ago, I also get easily distracted when on-line. Most of the time I just search aimlessly and click on whatever catches my attention... we'll never know what we will find.

Here's a couple of sites you might like:
stratfor.com
zerohedge.com

You come here for the news?

Like Prince was murdered by the illuminati? That was not reported by the MSM.

Oh, then there's the post about Prince still being alive. Actually a few. That isn't being covered by the MSM.

Then there's the posts saying he had AIDS and died of that. MSM hasn't reported on that either.

Then there's the posts that said he believed in faith healing and wouldn't take medicine. MSM hasn't reported on that either.

Then there a post about Brazil losing a soccer match to Germany and that is an omen that the Olympics aren't going to be held there.

MSM hasn't reported on that.

I could go on and on and on.

Really, the stuff people come up with on this website, ATS is pretty legit.

That was just from the past day or two reading through the recent threads.

I like the internet. It is full of information You just need to investigate what truth it contains. Most things contain a little truth or nobody would believe them.

As for TV.....I like Grim and Lucifer. Those shows contain more reality than listening to the Politicians running for president. I also watch old Star Trek shows and some old shows on METV which actually have much more reality than watching political debates.

Look, we have flip phones like on Star Trek, and there is no stress watching those old TV shows, not like watching people hurt them self on Funniest Home Videos. That show should be censored, I bet the medical industry created that show.

It is strange how they promote risk nowadays, no wonder the medical and pharma industry along with their suppliers and health insurers make up about twenty three percent of our GNP

I think this reality we have created is based on risk and deception. They have hooked us on technology. How did that happen? People don't realize that the old TVs had a much better picture than the new. Analog was better, LCD pictures are not as nice and smooth as reality, they are sharper than looking at anything outside. Pretty soon we will not be able to see anything unless it is on a screen, the sharpness will cause problems with our eyes.

Umm...I wrote this:

I was referring to earthquakes, tornados, riots, bombings, etc....not celebrity gossip.

I'm sorry I'm not as stupid as I look.

Seriously you are right - other people are I think the best source for fact checking. That's what I call "the old internet" and although slow it was pretty reliable for *vetted* information. That is what I really do not like about the internet today. I love the freedom it gives us all, but the flip side is anybody can write anything they want and you never know what you are getting.

Yeah ATS is definitely a great source of alternative information (at least here in America) to share this space from folks all over the world. I have had more than a few preconception bubble popped here at ATS by someone from Australia or Singapore or wherever.

Problem is, like I state earlier, it takes a lot of time to sort through the fluff. I was hoping to get from my fellow ATSrs what is their go-to news and information site. Like when you are first awake in the morning with coffee ( or tea or whatever) in hand and fire up the internet for the first time, what is like the very first site you hit to see what is going on?

Ha! Had to read your post to the person I was in the car with. Very true, very funny.

But seriously, when you sit down to the internet to do your reading, where do you go other than here?

Thank you.

I check e-mail first then come straight here.
I put CNN on just to see what the world is believing today, lol.

Usually I hide in chit-chat when I'm here but if there is a big story (like the Paris/Belgium bomb attacks) I look for the active threads for information from people who are in that location.

stratfor.com
zerohedge.com
abovetopsecret.com (obviously)

Yeah, I spend way too much time sorting through information to see if something is true or false. Most times the answer is somewhere in between. Sometimes the information is real but it is immaterial because it is on the wrong track all together. That happens a lot when you start studying things, you find that the whole research or evidence is following something that is not need to be followed. The government bids on things and makes an issue to get the best bid yet the need for the whole project is not there. It is special interests that want the money, lots of times big corporations benefit by the waste.

Maybe RT? To balance the Anglo-American-centric news, in other words news from the other bully in the playground.

C'mon, you just need to be smart when using the Internet and info from it. Where else could you get an access to such a great volume of data and info and music and movies and books and people and other? Do you prefer visiting library and stop communicating with who are far away now?
