Here is a real interesting set of permutations......
Israel is not large enough to sustain even one good sized nuclear incident should this ancient reactor suffer a catastrophic failure....
The core constructed in the 50s and designed to last 40 yrs is well over its life expectancy now.....
The confession of Mordichai Vannunu a technician at Diamona, that Israel manufactured nukes there got him an 18 yr jail sentence....
I am inclined to believe he wasn't lying....
If estimates are in the ballpark, this tiny postage stamp power has 115 nuclear weapons at its fingertips....
However the Israelis continue to neither confirm or deny their stockpiles....
Should the Plant at Diamona end up being decommissioned...the chances are Israels secret nuclear weapons program may be revealed.....
If they don't shut the damn thing down soon their chances of serious failure grow exponentially with time.....

The horns of a dilemma are situated directly beneath the governments posterior.....
It remains to be seen which way they will jump.....
Details at the link...what do YOU think...?

I think they should pray to their God, the one that on whose promise gave them license to steal.
Maybe He can fix it.

Agree or disagree with Israel's stance on their existence; I know if I were them I would be ready to nuke every capitol in the surrounding countries who ever once uttered the "Destroy Israel" line many are so fond of saying..

I actually had a nuclear engineer tell me years and years ago that the best policy for nuclear power is to plan on building a huge pyramid over the spot where/when one is decommissioned for the land and the area will be a no-go for generations to come.. Something I tend to agree with.

... and the only way to deal with an ageing nuclear plant is to decommission it?

Why don't they just spend a little money and upgrade, now they don't have to keep it secret too, it's easy.

They should pray to their God, but modern Israelis are mostly irreligious.

Their God also expressly forbade stealing (the 9th of the 10 commandments) but since they do not acknowledge God, they probably don't acknowledge His commandments.

It seems to me that a country who's picky about what other countries should have nuclear..whatever, should be able to act responsibly with their own gear.
The OP's link is reporting some relevant items from the Haaretz newspaper, it's not a rag, and should be considered with soms gravity.
although, the OP has been vacated, I'll flag it anyway.
