An unexplained carpet of foamy bubbles filled streets in the centre of the southern Japanese city of Fukuoka in the early hours of Saturday morning – shortly after tremors from a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.3 shook the town.

Twitter users posted pictures of the mysterious foam, with one calling it “disgusting”.

“I saw it just after the earthquake,” said Kazuki Nabeta, who lives in the busy central district of Tenjin, where the bubbles were found.

Japanese city of Fukuoka covered in mysterious foam after earthquake

I really have no idea when it comes to this crazy news story. The foam appears to be thick, like shaving cream. I've tried to think of various natural occurrences of foam, but nothing comes close to the sheer volume of foam from the pictures. I wonder if it's some sort of military science test or something.

Fukuoka is Japan's 6th largest city and has the highest number of homeless people in Japan. It would be interesting to talk to the homeless to hear about what they saw regarding the foam.

From your link:

"...There wasn't anything special about it – it was normal foam.”

What the heck is "normal foam?!" LOL

I'm assuming/hoping someone has/is testing it to figure out what it was. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing "normal" about foam bubbling up all over a city after an earthquake.

I had a roommate years ago put a good squirt of dish soap into the dishwasher one time. If that was any measure of the power of shaking and dish soap, I'm thinking a 55-gallon barrel of Dawn dish soap mixed with water and some earthquake would be enough to cover a city in foam.

I wonder if the quake caused an underground break of a water pipe and mixed with some kind of leaking chemical. I don't know. Just sayin', looking for an explanation. Strange though.

lol

Raises hand.

I did the dish soap in the dishwasher fiasco once upon a time. I was actually thinking of something similar. Possibly a household chemical dump location got shook too much and poof....Sudsville

So where the heck did this foam seep out of?

ETA: Nevermind, so its raw sewage? Why does it look like shaving cream I wonder?

On ATS? I've been scouring the Internet to the best of my low-moderate ability and can't find anything on it. If true...eew.

yes, on ATS

This happens in other places where untreated sewage, mixed with chemicals overflows. Bangalore. Some people even thought a piece of this foam picked up by the wind was a UFO.

Well how about that, thanks Reldra! I wonder how many showers the dude shuffling his leg through it took once he found out.

Guess we shouldn't be surprised to see waves of jenkum junkies showing up!

The guy in the link says the fire brigade was out, and that it was foam, I don't think those people are going to dander about in raw sewage.

There been a bubbling froth come up through the ground in previous eathrquakes though.
