1. You're only required to pick a party in States that require it. For example, the State I'm in doesn't require it. We also have open primaries.
2. You actually helped my point with Selective Service. It's legally required to register with them even though it isn't used anymore (since we have
no draft). So voter registration can be legally required, even though voters can still choose not to vote.
Besides, I see voting as a perk of citizenship. Once citizens hit 18, we have to adhere the responsibilities of citizenship, such as being available
for jury duty, being eligible for potential military drafts (for males), and full legal consequences for breaking laws. So why shouldn't citizens also
legally get the perks that come with adult citizenship?
