In the case of the OP someone already posted flakka as a drug which is not easily detected and might have been missed during tests.
To those saying something is up, it has always been it is just most of western ancestors chose to keep the majority out of it all and only have a few
specialists dealing with it. It's our ignorance that has kept us safe for all these centuries. Lately however there appears to be a group of people
wanting to secure their surroundings like most living beings want to except these people are very succesful at it. Like another posted stated, they'll
say natural human emotion is something that needs to be treated, not just for the money by selling pills but mostly they hope the individual will
become dormant, predictable and controllable. They just don't want to risk anything and medicate people as a precaution, even if those people haven't
done anything wrong or pose a danger to them, because they don't know if the individual can handle human emotions or not. One day emotions might
become a privilige only to the few succesfull families, not for the common man who gets an implant which is monitored remotely for emotions and gets
drugs fed through them to balance out all the chemicals in the brain.
These media coverages play into that wish by stengthening prejudice, "all mentally ill people pose a danger to themselves or their surroundings" which
justifies a lot of things otherwise impossible. It used to be taboo when the good guys were in charge but that is not the case any more.
The above is actually not what demons want. They want the people to know and interact with them and way things are going religion might be banned
altogether in the future at some point and the ignorance might become even stronger to keep all spirits out, both good and bad because it'll become
something unknown and maybe even forbidden to talk about. The only thing humanity has to give up, is their spirit, their human emotions and a
difficult transitioning once this life is over, completely unprepared, little chances of reaching heaven and have to wait (maybe centuries) for
someone to help them.
