Azerbaijan is a secular nation with no official state religion. While the religious majority is Shia Islam, from 2000 to 2013 6 people have been killed in terrorist related attacks. Given the advances Azerbaijan made when it was released from Soviet occupation serves as another example of just how wrong the USSR and now Russia have gotten it.
"We pray our Azerbaijani brothers will prevail in these clashes," the presidency quoted him as saying.

Azerbaijan is a American/Turkey Proxy Puppet ........ as are all European countries. Why do they take the risk being taken over by Muslims?
Any country that peruses a foreign policy independent of Washington gets bombed back to the stone age. Look at Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria.
Mind you, note the geographical location of these countries, they are all close to a very small but very powerful country in the mid east, listen to whom all the presidential candidates are affirm their support to.
Azerbaijan has announced a "unilateral ceasefire" in fighting with Armenian forces over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. A defence ministry spokesman said the Azeris were acting in response to international calls to halt violence. But the Armenia-backed Karabakh military said "fierce fighting" was continuing. Nagorno-Karabakh has been in the hands of ethnic-Armenian separatists since a war that ended in 1994. Fighting had continued into Sunday, after clashes left 30 soldiers dead and caused civilian casualties.

Nagorno-Karabakh clash: Turkey backs Azeris 'to the end' against Armenia
Turkey has close ties to Baku but does not have relations with Yerevan because of the dispute over mass killings of Armenians during the Ottoman era, which Armenia says was a genocide. Turkey staunchly denies this.
Azerbaijan has repeatedly brought to international community’s attention the undeniable facts that the weapons and military equipment acquired by Armenia are deployed on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh region, read the note. “By deploying these weapons on the occupied territories without the consent of the exporting country, Armenia grossly violates its international legal obligations, as well as the weapons control regime and transparency,” said Hajiyev.
“Thereby, Armenia enhances its military presence on Azerbaijan’s occupied lands,” he added. Hajiyev also said Azerbaijan demands the exporting country, Russia, to provide a guarantee for non-use of the weapons and military equipment sold to Armenia on Azerbaijani territories, as well as along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
Russia who sells them top of the line weapons systems.
What does a NATO plan dealing with Italy have to do with the 2 kerplakistan country's?
There location helps considering they are sitting at the cross roads of the silk road and several other trade routes. From everything I have seen Azerbaijan is one of those rare forward thinking countries albeit they have government corruption issues like everyone else.
As a part of his working visit to the Northern Cyprus Ahmad Shahidov, head of Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) held a meeting with Prof Dr. H. Nadiri, Rector of Cyprus International University on February 23. The meeting featured discussions on bilateral collaboration and the sides reached an agreement that CIU would back projects of AIDHR to be implemented in Europe.
Seems Russia is using Armenia as their proxy towards an ally of Turkey, but of course you seem to want to leave that part out why?
Guess telling the whole story would take away from your anti west stance by showing Russia is heavily involved in this conflict...as they have been in most conflicts involving ex Soviet countries.

But it sure is interesting that Russia is sending 200 million dollars of military equipment that Armenia is using to to shore up their military presence on Azerbaijan territory shows this is a problem that Russia is trying to push farther because Turkey has close ties to Azerbaijan.
