Hi everyone!

I have a project to do for my statistics class that involves interviewing people.. but I am the shy type who doesn't really enjoy approaching strangers in person, especially on my campus; the people are not exactly friendly for the most part. I thought perhaps I could complete the project with the help of ATS!

The assignment is to collect data for two variables of my choice. Mine will investigate if there is a correlation between income and purchasing fast food. (Yeah, I know, so creative - but I have more important things to do in life/the real world than to waste all of my time on these things!)

So more to the point - I ask that anyone who doesn't mind answering these three brief questions to perhaps take a moment to do so. Your responses will be anonymous. You can certainly 'private message' me the answers if you are willing. I also used a tool to build a free online survey, but it can only be multiple choice so it isn't as accurate as I would have liked. You can also of course respond in this thread. The questions are as follows:

• What is your monthly income?
• On average, how many times per month do you purchase fast food?
• Approximately how much do you spend on fast food per month?

The link to the survey.

Fast food will be defined as "food that can be prepared quickly and easily and is sold in restaurants and snack bars as a quick meal or to be taken out."

A sincere thanks to anyone who is willing to help me with this - you are saving me from some serious social anxiety

Can you define "fast food"?

Would fixing a plate at the pre-prepared food bar at Whole Foods be considered "fast food"?

Ahh thanks, I meant to define it in the OP (which I will fix).

Fast food will be defined as "food that can be prepared quickly and easily and is sold in restaurants and snack bars as a quick meal or to be taken out."

So yes I would consider that to be fast food from your description - but use your best judgement.

and thank you Jappee! Much appreciated

A more interesting survey would have been, 'How much is your monthly income and what do you spend monthly on hookers and blow?'.

I know your answers already.

It does - thank you! I appreciate the context too. I actually decided to go with these variables for two reasons. One was how I felt after hearing a friend complain about being broke and having no money/job, and then stating that this is why he purchases McDonalds everyday, which kind of made me raise an eyebrow or two
I'm no expert but I know that I cannot afford that lifestyle, and it is cheaper to buy in bulk low-cost products from a store with coupons than buying McDonalds twice a day everyday (in my area that is). The other being that I have heard many others with lower income talk about how expensive fresh produce and healthier options are, and how cheap fast food is in comparison, which deeply saddens me.

Creative idea though, buying a plain pizza and adding topics - I may have to try that!

- Monthly income is $6096 ($4680 US), before tax
- I get fast food like twice a day, so about 60 times a month
- So at around $10 to $12 per meal, it would work out to about $600 to $720 ($460 to 550 US) a month

But I'm a single male who has a very labour intensive job and needs lot's of calories, plus there's a McDonald's right next door to my work... that's my excuse anyway, lol.

You forgot the expenses for paying off judges and cops. Dead hookers don't bury themselves!

It's less of a conspiracy site and more of a hourly Trump RSS feed these days.

As for me I earn around £3000 per month, which after tax, National Insurance and pension deductions equates to around £2,200 net income.

I spend roughly £150 per month on fast food, which includes a sandwich from the local shop each lunchtime.

Done.

One thing of note on your linked survey, your monthly income has a gap in it. One option is $1500-$2000 and the next is $2500-$3000. I happen to fall between $2k and $2.5k, so I chose the lower option.

Did the survey. We actually home cook most of our foods, including breads and sweets, now that we are both retired. When we were working and making lots of bucks, we tended to eat out all the time. I would stop for fast food at least thirty times a month, I was working sixteen hours a day. We would get Schwann foods and eat that highly processed food also.

When we switched over to a supposedly good diet I found that I was having digestive and metabolic issues so researched this and found out what was causing the problem. I cannot eat too many veggies especially raw and I also have problems with eating lots of fruits. I can eat lots of berries and much more root veggies than green veggies. Raw dark green leafy is the problem.

Now that I have identified the problem, I adjusted the diet and do not believe the Fad nutrition that is being spread in this country. We are all different and need to eat differently. This research information is actually in the high levels of metabolism if someone is interested in finding it. You need to look in the opposite direction of consensus of the time to find it. Most stuff out there is following a path that only certain people can follow which leads towards long term chronic problems five years later on. Most people cannot comprehend that something they started a month ago with no side effects is giving them a problem yet alone a year or five down the road.

Just as an example. jco.ascopubs.org...

It has nothing to do with diet, but just shows a side effect of doing something believed to be healthier.
