I'm sort of doing this in reverse as I already replied to a few threads before introducing myself, sorry about that!

Anyway, ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by flying machines - conventional & Unidentified. My father is responsible for jump starting my interest in this subject. He also taught me how to fly at age 14. He was an airline pilot who was involved in a somewhat famous UFO sighting case which had the "privilege" to be categorized as unknown in project Blue Book. It happened on July 14, 1952.

Dad is now nearly 99 years old & still recalls the sighting with as much excitement as if it happened yesterday.

There is a ton of literature on this sighting including a fairly heated back and forth correspondence my father had with Menzel. To most folks, the disinfo guru was unsuccessful in his attempt to debunk the case.

Dad does not use computers or the internet, so I have the fun privilege of showing him how much the subject of UFOs has exploded over the years.

If you have any questions for him, please ask & I will post his answer in the forum.

I have a few questions for your forum community which I will post when I have enough replies to do so. Thanks again to all of you for this fun, informative website!

Hi,welcome to ATS! Looking forward to your thread.I live in South Africa and myself and my family have had many ufo sightings,so its a subject that interests me.Some sightings can be quite unforgettable indeed.Anyway hope you enjoy your time on this site

Hello Ed- awesome introduction. I had to laugh because I too joined today after years of just reading posts. I also learned to fly at 14 ( piper tri-pacer) and my grandfather was a pilot for TWA. Also I too posted replies before an intro about myself. Anyways not trying to steal your thunder, just found it amusing at the similarities of flying young with an aviation family back round and stuff. So cheers and welcome.

I am anxious to hear what you and your Dad have to say. I don't know what the polite wait would be so I will jump in. Could you ask him if he knows about a UFO sighting &/or contact in Stuttgart, Germany, in a US Army Base, in 1952?

Was he there? If not, did he hear of anything? Tell him I said hi, and I am glad he is here through you.

I will definitely ask him about it. He flew for Pan Am and was based in Miami at the time, although he did spend the last few years of his career based in Berlin flying the 727. This is where I was born as well.

It was on the return trip to Miami in 1952 that he had this UFO sighting. He was flying over Chesapeake Bay in Virginia when he saw eight UFOs flying in a tight echelon formation.

My father, Bill Nash Sr. & Second officer Bill Fortenberry witnessed these events while flying a DC-4 at 8,000 feet. It has come to be known as the "Nash-Fortenberry UFO Sighting"

I don't know if I'm allowed to post links, but if you google it, its not hard to find.

Hello and so sorry, I did not realize that you had posted a reply, as you didn't hit the reply button. I have been wondering what happened to you and just did some hunting.

Considering your sudden silence, I am hoping that you and everything with you and your Dad are okay?

That is really cool, having or being so close to someone who had a conscious, no nonsense, and collaborated sighting. You'd be surprised at all the people on ATS who think that UFOs don't exist...or at least I am surprised by this. I thought this was more of a mutually discerning and questioning and at least relatively open minded group. But welcome again to the odd mix, and please don't let the Ney Sayers scare you away.

I'm okay, just got busy with daily drivel for the last couple of weeks. I asked him about this sighting in Germany, but he doesn't recall hearing about it. I've read (and he mentioned to me) that the 1950's was a period where the world was inundated with ufo sightings and reports. Even the blue book staff was overwhelmed and could not keep up with all of the credible sightings. During this time, many good cases were not really given their due.

Dad was very active in the ufo community for quite some time. As a kid, I remember him heading out to give presentations at some of the ufo conventions that were held near us in Florida. He was good friends with Jim Moseley & we would visit him whenever we went down to Key West. Jim was a bit more "fringe" than Dad, but they always had a good time discussing the subject and comparing notes.
