Its slightly an opinion based thing is argue but id also argue yes, Islamic scholars gave the end of the dark age a humongous boost. I always felt the biggest problem was reconciling pursuits in science with religion which was finally done thanks to st Thomas aquinas who said God wouldn't give man a curious mind capable of experimentation and discovery if he didn't mean us to use it for those purposes. Finally what was seen as witchcraft largely became medicine, droves of writings on herbology alchemy geography anatomy medicine etc which were all being developed in Islamic universities all the way to the prestigious one in timboktu had the ban lifted on them and it definitely helped fill in a thousand years of blanks. Its crazy to think how far back wed be if nobody on earth had went forward with any study in these fields those thousand years and also how advanced wed be if we had those thousand years back of advancement. Then again maybe not that incredible when you YouTube the sixties videos about the year 2000 and how the narrator shows a dramatization and says "in the year 2000, man will take his hover mobile to work on the moon or mars then fly back for dinner which will be in pill form before plugging in ten minutes to his sleep-o-matic."
