And what's interesting is Alaska used to bleed blue blood until the 70's with the oil industry. Suddenly you had big oil and a lot of Texans invading Alaska.

Before? Alaska relied heavily on the federal government for everything and ALWAYS was a blue state in national elections.

I would have had to change my affiliation to go there today. I didn't. So, I'm at home today. They changed the venue around and were doing shady stuff with the location at the last minute up here.

Oh, and they weren't offering any food or refreshments. No punch & pie. Sorry, I'm not dragging myself to something with 8,000 people to stand around for hours unless I get a free taco or something.

LOL!! Okay. Can't say I blame you. I stayed home on caucus day here, too. I was in the midst of having my house remodeled and it was very busy that day.
But he still won!!!!!
Yay!!!

The Democrats could run Jesus Christ on the POTUS ticket and he'd lose Alaska. Aside from Utah, there is no more staunchly conservative state in the US...

What?
You must be joking. The most staunchly conservative state?????? We've already done the south...
and I know that Alaska residents also (at least some 10 years ago) receive 'stipends' (via tax refunds) from the government just to live there.

I'm glad we agree on Palin, though.

ETA: Plus - what the heck? Jesus Christ is the GOP platform right now!!!!! Conservatives are all about "God"!!!! (Not Jesus's message - but "God!!!")

I really hope HRC is found non-viable (less than 15%) in at least one of today's states!

Woot Bernie!!!!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Woot - in my little AK village we had 24 people caucus:

2 HRC

22 Sen Sanders

YAY!!!!

Thanks for participating - I was hoping you'd chime in.

So - what do you make of burdman's claim that AK is (one of) the most conservative state(s) in the nation? Do you think that's true?

Thanks for the welcome, yeah I supported Obama back in 2012 when I was finally old enough to vote, and It really was only a vote between the lesser of two evils. He has been no different than any other democrat since the 70s. I couldn't bring myself to vote green, despite being in line with my views. This time however I have no idea what I'm going to do if Bernie doesn't win, it's a long shot but not impossible. We have to make a stand sometime, and if we don't win this time, 4 years of Trump before trying again with another progressive who would have more support or 8 years of the same old same old. I really don't know. I'm also unsure what Trumps true intention is, also who knows, Hillary despite her past could always turn against her donors, what does she have to lose at that point if she wins. I don't trust her, but she could really want to just go down in history in a big way, and what she has done, has just been playing the game, up to this point. HA

The Soviet of Washington has less than 100 delegates that will be allocated based on the caucuses.
What?
That's a silly label - the "Soviet" of Washington?
You have something against education and environmental awareness and personal liberty?

Dude, as much as I respect you as a retired librarian, I have trouble with that statement.
Sanders does not resemble "soviet" policies.

There aren't enough states left for him to win. Hillary will win no matter what, the DNC forces are the same RNC forces that are trying to stop Trump. If Bernie had won most of the southern states you better believe the media would have a field day with him instead of dismissing him like they do. They would be saying equally untrue things about Bernie as they are Trump. Now don't get me wrong, Id love to see Bernie beat her.

There arnt enough states left for him to win?
4051 total delegates
Clinton has-1223
Sanders has- 920
That's 1910 delegates left, but a 300 delegate count gap is somehow impossible to you?
Do you actually look into the numbers or just say stuff?

Your numbers don't match the ones here.

If Hillary takes California and Pennsylvania as she's expected to Bernie would have to take every other state in order to win.

Yeah the whole Jesus loving conservative just blows my mind sometimes. I'm Agnostic on beliefs and in school studying to get a degrees in Microbiology and Biochem and then get a PhD in Genetics. I was raised Catholic in the South but my parents were always liberal people and just taught me the golden rule. My dad even later admitted that he doesn't really explicitly believe the Catholic dogma, just focused on the things Jesus said while looking at the world in the way eastern philosophies do, reincarnation mostly. He had me read Carlos Castaneda, while knowing it fiction, it still presents the universe in a way similar to that of a school. What really drove me away from the church was the political undertone it would seem to take sometimes, especially the congregation itself outside of service. I would often wonder as a 7-8 year old how can these people say these things when their God says otherwise. I don't dislike religion itself, it's just the self righteous ones who use it to justify their actions and feel good about themselves. I don't know how many times i've heard people say "as long as you believe in the Jesus" I just can't help but think they are selling this life short and not trying to make any meaningful progress to be like the one they worship, as he said you should.

It's true. It is.

We used to rely heavily on the feds for everything being such low population state with little infrastructure and industry.

Then, in the late 60's and into the 70's the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline was built and Prudhoe Bay got kickstarted into production pumping oil. A lot of Texans and southerners moved to Alaska. Big oil and corporate interests moved to Alaska and began influencing and throwing money into Alaska politics.

Slowly over the course of a decade or so, Alaska went from bright blue to deep red. With the oil industry being here, a whole slew of other support services also moved here...construction, retail, ect...all big businesses with business-related politics into the mix.

It wasn't hard to flip Alaska from blue to red.

What Jesus supposedly said and what the "conservative Bible belt" people say are worlds apart.
