A king and his son

I time travelled to the past, there was something i was told, but didnt know if it was true or not..

I stood there with my ancestors, a high-priest in egypt.. He was doing a royal ceremony for the dead, a King had died and his son was to replace him..
There was just one thing i wanted to know, he took out a sharp tool and penetrated the former kings nose, i heard a crack...
Now this was the thing i wanted to know.. What was he going to pull out? i heard stories that they were butchers.. But it looked like he did something with a master surgeons precision.. He was gentle, and he pulled out something, i was shocked and repulsed.. I small thing with a sprout and an eye, it looked like something from an alien movie that lived inside our mind.. He showed it to me, and said.. " Soul " and the kings son approached and opened his mouth.. And swallowed it whole..

I had enough, i tried to see the logic, i couldnt.. So i went back home into my bed..

Is it possible that when it was perceived the previous kings soul was being ingested, that that was actually a way of passing the down the genetic and or spiritual crown? Interesting story...
