Again, being offended is not oppression. Dealing with assholes is not persecution. That's life in a society comprised of people with individual differences.

How is it being "shoved down your throat"? Personally.

When I have some jackwad banging on my door at 8 in the morning, wanting to know if I have found Jesus, I tell them he lives in the shed in the backyard.

I like the story about one of my daughters. I did raise them to believe in a Universal God. I told them, if anyone ever asks you what religion you are - - tell them "You are a child of God".

So, she's about 6 - - and this woman asks her what religion she is. She promptly responds, "I am a child of God".

OMG, you would have thought she said she was spawned by the Devil. This woman went off on this little 6 year old girl about how there is no God, but Jesus. That if she was a true Christian she'd know that and respond properly - - yada yada.

Uhhhh, that's about the time I stepped between her and my daughter. She got the message and was still ranting as she slithered off.

Fair thread and question OP.

I've never had my rights impinged by a Christian, ever. Never been persecuted or discriminated as far as I know.

I think most of this Anti Christian stuff you see is more fear of what might be. Logically I know that FEAR just means Future Events Appearing Real or worry and stress for stuff that hasn't happened. But emotionally I do fear what might happen if we got a Christian President and they passed some Theocratic laws based on the Old Testament or the writings of Paul. And what might happen...could be persecution of homosexuals or outright banning that with a law. undoing anti discrimination laws. Outlawing some media, porn, explicit Lyrics, Heavy metal Music, due to Christian beliefs. Making it illegal to sell Alchohol on Sunday or opening any business on Sunday, Making gambling illegal, Making any church that isn't Christian Illegal and on and on. After consideration, I don't see any of those things happening, but that's why there is this fear out there. Some prominent Christians have said things like this and that's the issue.

Its the Political Christian Right that's the problem.

Individual people of any religion are usually very nice and not too pushy.

Oh i get it, its not ok to hate the catholic church cause we didint get affected in person.

More fail
Talk about fails... This thread is premised on personal experience. "This is not the place or the time for you to tell him [about your disdain for certain catholic priests]." That can be better addressed in a thread about that subject. You're talking about tomatoes in a thread about oranges.

You mean the political "Christian" right. Don't confuse it.

I grew up in a suburb which had a fair amount of fundamentalist Christians. When much younger and more impressionable, I was regularly informed of my inferiority next to those who had been 'saved'.

My family are Jewish, and I was told 'my people' are responsible for the murder of Jesus. I was also told in no uncertain terms that I will burn in hell. While the parents of my peers did not subject me to any physical abuse, the same cannot be said of my peers. There was a very conformist right-wing attitude prevalent, and this impacted me by feeling somewhat restricted in what I could say in public.

People may say 'big deal', but to a child of 7 or 8, it can be a very big deal. Feeling ostracised and bullied is a form of persecution. This has given me a lifelong aversion to many types of organised religion, particularly evangelical Christianity. I will seldom discuss religion in person with those I know to be fundamentalist in their beliefs, who see the world strictly in terms of their faith.

Then don't elect them. It seems to me that people have the crazy notion that it's easier to get rid of the religion than the crazy politicians influenced by it.

If you can't keep people from voting for theocrats, tear the religion out from under them so they have no "platform"? Yeah, that sounds doable.

OK, excellent. Now how exactly is that oppression?

AGAIN. You are talking about being offended. Being told you are going to Hell is not persecution.

Sticks and stones, man. Being called a sinner isn't going to hurt you.

I find it oppressive. It's my call. Would have been far worse if I hadn't stepped in.

However, I grew up in the 50s before there were any Equal Rights laws. Housing, employment, etc.

In my area, if someone wasn't Christian they hid it. Just like gays hid their orientation. They could be fired for not being Christian (some were).

But, are we seriously trying to deny there is oppression going on by Christian groups?

No denial.

We just want to hear legitimate personal stories, such as yours. I simply think they are much fewer and further between than the anti-Christian crowd would have people believe.

No, I am not talking about being offended. Did you read my post?

I was bullied, ostracised, and beaten by my peers. Is this not persecution?

I think its persecution.

Persecution: hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs

Yes, rape affects me. I hate that there are rapists. Yes, the catholic priests who rape little boys should be persecuted to the fullest extent possible, and yes it irks me that there are some cover-ups. It's sad that such evil worms its way into any and all institutions of every religion, culture, and ideology. Now that we've established that rape is a total d*** move that we should all despise maybe you can save the issue for the appropriate thread... Unless you yourself were raped by a catholic priest. Then by all means discuss it. Otherwise, quit being so juvenile.

Never mind on the thread.

Seems some are trying to prove there isn't Christian persecution if its not: One on One.

Now that's a FAIL.

If Christians support anti-equality groups - - that's persecution.

You're not proving anything by you personally defining on a One to One what you consider persecution.

Later.

Keep on dodging the real issues, and play the victim, dosent change reality.
