Help or destroy?

I am not sure if this has been discussed before or not, but I have looked.

I believe that ET is out there and are actively watching us. What I am putting out there is, do you think they are monitoring us to protect us from nuclear war or to see if we destroy our planet or studying us for weakness in order to invade?

I believe the vast majority are impartial, the earth and humanity are still in a gestation period. They know there is a good chance we will destroy ourselves, so for now, they just observe.

I think a better question would be: "Why would an alien race be interested in us at all?" Humanity is an infant warring with itself, whose duplicitous nature overrides all logic and reason. If anything it would be more beneficial to end our suffering already.

If "aliens" we're here you'd know it. I doubt they'd care about what you care about.

Agreed, one would hope they would intervene sooner rather than later in order to cleanse our aggressive nature.

maybe they are monitoring to harvest emotions regardless of good, bad, etc..because they then sell the emotions as a chemical rush.
they are alien after all, why try to assume they have intentions even remotely close to human style intentions. they may see life as just changing clothes, or as concerned about if we live or die as much as if a ocean wave crashes against a rock during a tide or not.

Only 2 options? How about they are just like us in space, exploring. Having see how we treat the planet and each other they have decided to keep a low profile!

If they are out there watching us.... they could have harmed us already and at any given moment..
They did travel vast distances did they now... They have to have weapons of great power and we are but slugs to them.

If TV sitcoms offer an accurate portrayal of the aliens' intent, (and I think we all agree they do) then said aliens
will come to Earth disiguised as humans. Their mission will be to study our baffling customs, but before long, they'll embrace our wacky ways and adopt the human lifestyle. They'll eat junk food, become lazy, lie, call in sick to work, and follow idiotic Earth fads.

With the absence of evidence to the contrary I'm not sure they're doing either , if they did want to invade they could do it in a matter of hours as they would hold the ultimate high ground , we wouldn't stand a chance.

I'm sure they're out there but am unsure they are aware that we are over here , although that doesn't mean that they haven't discovered us and are their way to check out what's making that noise.

Space is a very big place. What makes you think ET is actively watching us? If there are billions of intelligent lifeforms out there in the universe then we are not that special. If there aren't then that vastly reduces the chances of being noticed.

Why would they want to protect us from nuclear war when they didn't do anything to stop Hiroshima, Nagasaki or all those nuclear tests since?

And lets face it if you are going to invade somewhere why Earth? Surely you'd look for a planet with similar resources and an indigent population that has no planet destroying capabilities. Unless you like a challenge.

Of course we have no idea how an spacefaring alien species would behave and we have no idea if they exist either.

We are a science experiment.

We get out of control, or pose a threat, they will destroy us.

If they had a part in seeding this planet with life, than I would think they would be interested in our progress. The human species does the same thing.

I'd only assume they were here to destroy us, if they'd come from a planet similar to ours, and they either need to expand or their planet is dying. I suppose if one species can get here, that possibly others can too. So maybe a mix of mostly good but perhaps some with bad intentions. I think those with bad intentions from our point of view, would be rare, so unlikely to come here though.
I really doubt anything that visits us, travels through space in our perspective of the universe. They come through what some people call the astral plane, or a parallel universe, but it is in fact part of this universe but made of dark matter.
Some come from this planet, but from the dark matter dimension (Earth's dark matter twin). Mostly they just observe us.
They possibly have rules to not interact with us, perhaps due to us still being young, and because we're quite dangerous. Paranoia and certain religious ideas, might lead some humans to make the wrong conclusions about who and what these "aliens" are. We won't be ready for disclosure, until we all call ourselves Earthlings, and get rid of childish ideas such as nationalism.

So, if they are here (which they are!), they're just observing for now, and have no bad intentions. I believe (well hope) that they'd jump in and stop a nuclear war, or if they can, they'd stop or divert a large asteroid or comet from hitting us.
They're not trying to take over the world, they're not bad or dangerous to us. Humans just need to grow up.

None of the above. If they wanted to, they would have already. Not nukes, not eating us, not helping or getting rid of us.

There is nothing on Earth they couldnt find on any of the billions of other places we dont even know about.

Pretty pretentious to think we're so special they'd want anything from us. They don't need anything from our little blue dot, because if they wanted to...they wouldve done so by now. Even not helping us...

Do we care about ants on an ant hill as we walk the streets? If anything we dont notice them...or meanly kick their anthill down. So if they wanted to, they would have and they havent.
