Just been announced that Keith Emerson keyboard player with Emerson Lake & Palmer has passed away age 71.

My mom will be bummed. She was talking about them the other day when I announced that I am naming my first boy Emerson. She noted that this was one of her favorite bands.

If there's a rock and roll heaven.

Oh wow, one of my previous bands used to get compared to Emerson Lake & Palmer all the time (although I thought we were musically more like Pat Metheny Group).

I am getting older by the minute, watching the greats fall, one by one.

Sounds like he had cancer and saw himself off before the cancer did.

We went to karaoke last night. Someone sang Lucky Man and they ended the night with Karnevil9. (No one with a Mike then but the crowd all sang. )

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Im glad I at least got to see him live. Rick Wakeman (YES) and Keith were my favorites.

Keith live used to stab his Hammond B3 with swords to hold down a key or two while he played....

Amazingly sad and defeated today now.....

Now I read he died of a gunshot wound...self inflicted. This is harder to take than just him passing. Keith was idolized, stylized, inspiring, creative and a genius beyond words.

As a lead guitarist...Ive always played keys as well....but almost gave them up when I first heard him. Keith led me to classically inspired playing and taught me the discipline to work hard means to attain proficiency.

Ive only worn a black arm once in my life for the passing of one musical great....today I don the second....

Sadly at a loss...and the world of music grieves with me..............
