NYC Man Suspected in Multiple Assaults and a Murder is Shot by Police

James Patrick Dillon, 23 years old, was shot and wounded by police after a string of horrific crimes. The spree started yesterday:

The attacks began at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Queens when a 39-year-old woman was slashed in the face. Police say three hours later, a 55-year-old liquor store owner was stabbed to death, and a 61-year-old homeless man was set afire and critically injured.

What kind of rage was generated to commit these acts of savagery? Dillon hasn't been charged yet, and no motives have been discussed, other than:

At a press conference, police said Dillon had been treated for psychological problems in the past and that family members said he had not been taking his medication recently.

Both arresting officers suffered burns as a result of the suspect using an "unknown chemical" sprayed on them, and they opened fire on Dillon as a result of being sprayed and the knife in his hand, which he refused to drop.
