I recently was cleaning my computer documents up and I came across and article that sheds a lot of light on todays Politicians and the greed that goes with all the issues they have created.

After reading the article I found myself think how true it all is.

545 people Vs 300 Million

I know its a few years old but, the points that are made as still ever so clear, looking at all the taxes listed I bet we could add a lot more to that list. But the real question is what are the people in Washington Hiding from us, why are we in so much debt, why can't things be easier.

Read the article and give some feed back on what you think. Personally I think this hits the nail on the head.

How dumb are we? If we just ignore it, it will wither away and die.

I think the piece is childish. Each of those questions is a hmmm? question. One after another. When taken singly they suggest that the answer should be simple because the questions are simple. And the answer that Mr. Reese comes down to is it is the politicians. And that is just too simple, to childish.

All the questions posed are sound byte questions. And there on the header of the page is a brick wall with sound byte slogans written in chalk. Why?

It may be because we now have two or three generations of people in this country who have been raised on not much more than sound bytes. Actually if we look back even farther we can see this concept is also there in our schooling. We were taught history in short concise bits. Action and date. Man and date. Memorize the who and the when and we got A's, never mind the larger contexts that surrounded those situations. Never mind the whys. Same is true of math. Memorize the answers and little thought given to the larger nature of mathematical systems.

So then we got radio and radio had to squeeze songs into a short time frame in order to pop up the next commercial. That is why until the advent of fm radio in the mid sixties, all songs played on the radio had to be like only two minutes long. Had to make room for the commericals.

Then TV, same thing. Short news bits so the commercials could play in entirety. And programs where the problem surfaces in the first two minutes before commercials then the body of the program, broken by commercials and then wrap it up with in the hour or half hour so that all the viewers are happy, more comercials and then on to the next one.

That is only a part of the problem and why the simplistic answer provided by Mr. Reese is actually PART of the problem. He makes attempts to answer some of these sweeping complex issues with simple little sound bytes and it cannot be done.

Initially the people that formed this country were pissed because the English crown was taxing people too much. They came here to get away from all that. They set a limit on taxes at ten percent and only to be collected during time of war.

There was to be no progressive permanent income tax and the the government was to collect it directly, not make indentured servants of companies that collect it for them from your paycheck.

As far as how many it takes, the Million man march on Washington was pretty scary for politicians.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

You can take that FACT to any fiat currency bank in the country.

The entire practical aim of American politics are politicians trying to convince the masses we 'need' them.

Their entire rason d'etre is creating problems to offer ' 'solutions' to what they created in the first place.

People that is why Washington offers NO REAL solutions.

At best they try to blame someone else.

They try to blame another party.

They try to blame some 'billionaire'.

They try to blame some 'corporation'.

People ALL our problems come from those 535 kleptocrats on Capital Shill.

They are elected for their OPINION.

They get PAID for their OPINION.

They created legislation based on nothing more than OPINION.

Basically we are forever screwed.

That is an awesome article. It should be mailed to one's representatives.

Ihad to paste this just in case someone doesn't read the Article

Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he’s fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid…

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
‘Taxes drove me
to my doom…’

When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

What in the heck happened? Can you spell ‘politicians?’

What do you think would happen if 300million walked on DC this summer and demanded the 545 step down?

That would be the unofficial Convention of the People by the People.

Even if it were 3 million the police couldn't stop them is they got rowdy. 300 million would mean everybody including police and military are there too demanding the same as everyone else.

But yeah, probably couldn't get everyone to unite. I was surprised that he has all different classes, sexes and ethnic people behind him.

Let's see what happens

So what's your solution to a company who uses an ingredient in their product that's known to cause cancer, but they suppress the research and kill millions in order to make a larger profit?

Only government can stop that, the free market proved itself completely incapable of doing so.

The stopped the cigarette companies well enough, even more so in other nations where their people elect people on the basis of making government competent.

Even Singapore, the nation with the highest economic freedom and no minimum wage laws has generous government involvement in education, a great socialist health care system which gives them the highest life expectancy in the world (they go so far that they even buy people private gym memberships), government provided internet (which happens to be among the fastest in the world), an efficient public transportation system, and heavy government investment in transport areas like their airport hubs (which are a major hub for Asia).

When you support the people and provide infrastructure, private corporations benefit.

but to the high degree of government involvement they have less freedom and even less room to move around with the little freedom they do have.

Socialism is not the way to go. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right. Even if countries only have limited socialism it is proving to be an error, EU, Britain are showing signs it doesn't work and Canada will be next.

It depends on how you measure freedom, they have a very high degree of economic freedom. Where they lack is in personal freedom due to press censorship and disproportionately harsh criminal punishments. Personal freedom however has nothing to do with socialism, the arguments put forth against socialism all have to do with economic freedom which studies and real world examples have shown just isn't the case.

Glad you read this.

I suggest you will also be advantaged by reading the free Ebook, Adventures in Legal Land by Marc Stephens. He makes the point that law is just the written collective opinions of a few hundred politicians and which is backed up by violence or the threat of violence.

This is an excellent description of what Statute Law is (which is law made by politicians) It is separate and distinct from common law which is law of the land in which guilt or innocence of an accused is determined by a jury not just one person in the form a magistrate.

When a jury makes a decision they are effectively making law. This is how the law worked before governments come along and it will be form of law that exists long after governments go.

It seems odd to me that politicians, or at least some of them, admit that they are servants but if they are servants how can they make laws that apply to their masters?

This is one reason why many believe that statute law, politicians made law, is contract law by its nature and therefore does not apply to you and I other than by our consent.

We the masses never have consented to any politician made law through referendum there by giving our consent to it as 'we the people' and, thereby the law concerned, its legitimacy.

Just imagine how much control we would exercise over the servants in the congresses and parliaments of the world if laws like infringement law in which accusation is also evidence of guilt, if we the people could say to the govt 'no we do not want that law so withdraw it and the servant govt had no option but to rescind it.

Just imagine how much better the world would likely be if:

govts could not send troops to theaters of war without the peoples consent in a referendum?

govts could not enter into international agreements like the TPP for example, until the agreement had been posted on a govt website for 3 months and then we the people agreed to it in a referendum before the govt could sign such an agreement.

something like the Patriot Act expired after 5 years unless we the people, agreed to another 5 year extension in a referendum.

Aboma care could not become law until assented to by 'we the people' through a referendum.

etc.

Sounds like a pretty horrible world to me. Ordinary citizens have at best an average understanding of a subject, voters seem to have a below average understanding as herd mentality takes over when party politics come into play.

Do you really want to entrust your nations most important policies to those who consistently make the worst choices?

If the voters had any say then govt propaganda would be nonexistent and the herd mentality would be led by common sense a bit more than it is now..

If the people had more of a say then we would probably have a system that educates us a bit more about the ramification of wars, taxes and laws.. The two party system would probably implode as well do to a more focused collective..

I remember seeing that a few years back... I think I received it in an email actually. It does paint a very clear picture, and should have been a huge wakeup call for all of us. The answer is to curtail the power of government, and congress is a good place to start. At the same time, empowering the people to have a more direct and powerful voice in government.

I have made the suggestion that we the people make a Contract for Americans, similar to the Contract with America Newt Gingrich proposed on ran on in the 90s. But this time we make the demands and they promise to fulfill them, or they don't get our vote. Things like requiring every bill proposed include the Constitutional foundation for the new law; prohibiting the exemption of Congress critters (or anyone) from laws; end lobbying; end corporate campaign contributions; prohibit federal mandates upon the states; establish a procedure for federal ballot initiatives to be proposed and voted on by the people; a procedure for the people to approve/repeal any and all major legislation passed by congress; reduce the pay of congress critters -- and all elected officials -- to the average pay of the average worker; require any pay increases and or perks to be approved by the people; and so on.

Unfortunately, that would require the people actually coming together for the greater good, and we're not ready yet. I think most people just want to control and direct that power in their best interests -- not curtail it.

ETA: Someone else had a similar idea:

Contract From America

1. Protect the Constitution
2. Reject the EPA’s Overreach
3. Demand a Balanced Budget
4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform
5. Restore Fiscal Responsibility & Constitutionally Limited Government in Washington
6. End Runaway Government Spending
7. Defund, Repeal, & Replace Government-run Health Care
8. Pass an ‘All-of-the-Above” Energy Policy
9. Stop the Pork
10. Protect American’s Privacy
11. Stop Unconstitutional Executive Branch Power
