THREE DAYS LEFT: Freak supermoon, eclipse and asteroid on SAME DAY 'signal end of world'

A supermoon? Great, now instead of worrying about work, I'll be worrying about the idiots that only come out when the moon is full and drive recklessly.

Maybe the world will end that day though - I do believe it's Michigan primaries.

And, I plan on coming back to ATS in 3 days just to say I'm still here.

No need to worry. The Moon will not be full. It never is when there is a solar eclipse.

The world may still end though...seeing as I can't predict the future as well as I'd like. I can't say for certain. I'm also betting on a Trump vs Sanders campaign, but that's not a promising prediction :/

I wonder, which has more mass, a super moon or a normal moon. Hmmm

I often worry about getting hit by cars on roads no less than 15,000 miles away. It keeps me up at night. I'll be watching over my shoulder for that small asteroid since it makes the same amount of sense.

Even so, I love some good doom porn.

It's a "Super new Moon", not a "Super Full Moon".

There is no real official astronomical definition for a Super Moon, but it is most often unofficially defined as being a full Moon or a new Moon that is at its perigee point of its orbit around the Earth -- its closest point to Earth during that orbit. So this upcoming event is, by that definition, is a super new moon.

But yeah -- as mentioned above, only a new moon can create a solar eclipse on Earth; there is no such thing as a full moon (or even a moon that has any portion of it noticeably lit when viewed from Earth) causing a solar eclipse.

Hmmm. I see that the quoted portion of the article in the OP's post has it as "super full moon", but I was reading the actual article itself, and it reads "super new moon".

The article's author probably made the correction after the OP posted it. The opening paragraph now reads:

CONSPIRACY theorists are stocking up on food supplies amid fears the world could end from TOMORROW when a total eclipse of the sun, super new moon and staggeringly close asteroid pass of earth are set to happen around the globe.

Ever see Mel Gibson's movie Apocalypto? There's a human sacrifice during a total eclipse then, that night when the protagonist is having his escape, guess what? Full Moon.

UPDATE MARCH 7, 2016. Asteroid 2013 TX68 safely passed by Earth on Monday morning.

According to the Minor Planet Center, the space rock’s closest approach occurred on March 7 at 13:42 UTC (8:42 ET) at a distance of 2,542,960 miles (4,092,497 km) from Earth, just a bit closer than the nominal 3 million miles previously estimated.

The space rock approached our planet a few hours earlier than expected. The previous estimate indicated asteroid 2013 TX68 was due to pass by Earth around March 7 at 7:06 pm ET (March 8 at 00:06 UTC).
