Lol since 1996 and you still need adblockers to have control over your network? That is funny

You don't know what you are talking about
I've been using the web since 1996 for my job, which is cyber security and SEO
and i use adblocker to keep control over what i see,
what does it have to do with keeping "networks secure"?

It's a pity idiocy and blatant racism can't be monetized by the site owners here,
they'dd be part of the top 1% by now if they could...

Oh so blocking ads for you is purely so they don't clutter your screen?

And you would let ATS go down the tubes for this reason?

Wow. Selfishness and entitlement at it's finest.

So in trying to understand the issue here, a couple questions.

Some members see adds whereas others do not?

Those that see adds (members) only see them on home page?

Do non-members see them in other places than home page?

Do members see them in other places than home page?

I only see adds on home page, they're not offensively in my face making it impossible to navigate. The ads themselves are relevant to my tastes, I.e. Outdoorsman links....and I do need new boots!

racism? what are you talking about?

As you know working in the cyber security and as SEO. An adblocker is in the equipment used for browsing and working on the internet while it is much easier and secure to stop it in the equipment that actually resolves the connection between the equipment and the internet. I cannot imagen that a SEO or someone working with and in cyber security is using anything else but their own secured connections. Or are you using public wifi for that?

edit to say:

you know what.. you are a 1%er I take my words back

Except that in reality the amount of content (provided by users) visitors (=users) and pageviews (generated by users) has been steadily decreasing over time (www.alexa.com...).

I don't see any statistic at your link that backs up what you are claiming......

Must have been before my time. Speaking of time - you do realise that times change don't you? I would almost guarantee that when they said that they had no idea how big ATS would become - or how expensive it would be as a result.

People these days just feel entitled to be able to use ATS and not care about how its paid for as long as they have a forum in which to have their whinge in.

I wasn't whinging - I was simply informing you that your post to the other member was wrong.
You were acting like you actually know and were there at the start and ads had always been on ATS, which wasn't true.
I'm merely pointing out that pretty much every single thing regarding money this site has said, is now being reversed.
Good, bad, sign of the times, necessary evil - none of that is my point - my point is that ads were not always part of ATS and neither was donating/subscriptions, in fact it was explicitly against the way ATS was run.

But here we are - net neutrality, every site, piece of info and page view will soon cost money.
The internet has changed immensely from what it once was and we will all have to adapt.
I'm sure many sites will cease to exist and many small sites have already been swallowed by huge, mega sites and corporations.

ATS is like a little island now, in a sea of MSM, propaganda, social media crap and pointless noise online.

Hey I am no expert, I am just a regular dumbass that represents 99% of the people. I just noticed a few years back that little cable that brought the internet in to the homes and thought it would be easier if we could stop all stuff there at the entrance, so I did. But I am just lazy so I didn't feel like rigging all equipment with those kinds of blockades. But I am no expert.

I never doubt someone's claims though, if they want to claim it it is fine by me. I just make some dumbass remarks and ask some questions and if they didn't like it they should read my sig.

LOL You really don't have a clue don't you.

Yes it's to prevent visual clutter for one but also about unwanted bandwidth consumption (which i pay for) , privacy concerns (have you checked Ghostery logs when you use this site?), possibility for malware, attack vectors... the list goes on... but since it all goes right over your head i wont bother.

My attention is mine, and mine alone. In a world where health, work and even social interactions are more and more frequently commoditized, my attention and where I cast my eyes are some of the last things I can truly say I own completely. Ads, wherever they are presented — on television, direct mail, radio or the Internet — compete for a slice of this attention. For the TV viewer, DVR is a must-have staple. The Do-Not-Call Registry is a federally controlled program that can prohibit telemarketers from interrupting your day. And for the Web, users have ad blockers. Ad-blocking software is completely essential if you are any kind of Internet power user.

If ATS would go further down the tube (because times are changing) and people are fed up with ads they don't want to see (ads of which the site owners guaranteed the users in the past they would never ever see) then i would say : Times change, ATS has had it's time, if it goes down, it's their own fault, no one else. Especially not it's users that provide the content that the owners get ad revenue for....blaming adblockers for it is idiotic and false.

Times change, you said it yourself, adblock is not going away, in fact anyone with their finger on the pulse of the internet advertising industry knows it's use is exponentially growing, and screaming at your users to stop using it is akin to self destruction, accusing them of "extortion" and "theft" is a whole other level of stupidity.

It's Adapt or die...
And if it dies, another will take it's place.

You seem to have a problem understanding that this is a privately owned website. They set the rules.

Don't like it? Oh well. Bye.

I set the rules.
If I want to use an adblocker/no . ghostery then that's my choice.

What about that is so hard to understand?

Then put up with the redirects and the requests for you to turn it off.

And don't whinge if ATS has to close down because of yours (and others) selfishness.

Have a great day.

No where has SO said ATS is going down the tubes. Folks have moaned and groaned about ads and he has devised a way to end them, individually, for the price of a Starbucks coffee and without the amigos losing money.

And as always, that the membership agree to the T&C by not blocking ads. If you are blocking ads, then you lied when you said you agreed to the T&C in order to join.

I can't even read anymore of this mess. In fact, I hope he disables comments on this thread because there are too many crazy people on it.

I was just meeting ridiculous statements with equally ridiculous statements. Perhaps I was hoping they would cancel each other out.....

I think the point of what I was trying to say has been missed.

This is off-topic but I don't see you around much anymore. New members complain that all the "really good members" don't post much anymore. Your participation in this thread is a perfect example as to why.

Just sayin'. Nice to see you Kryties. Nice to see someone with a functioning brain.

FYI I have disabled that message, that took 3 seconds...

If ATS goes down because of "adblock users" then that's really pathetic and telling about the site owners.
