Been around firearms since I was old enough to hold one.And I thought it was always the case that as long as you passed the firearm safety course. And I think nutjob State representative Kirsten Running-Marquardt is using their imagination and severely skewing the situation as far as age. Someone needs to provide her with a sanity check.

The Libertarians and Republicans are loving the decision

I know more Democrats that own firearms than Republicans.

But why stop there?

Why not hand out handgranades? Because they are a really sensible way of defending yourself, and take up less space than a gun.

Or landmines? Those are just fun little boxes.

Reeeeeeally?!
Of course, because 'murica.. You deserve the bestest Trump you can get, 'murica!

Woah woah woah, gun grabbers don't like it when pro 2nd supporters use the slippery slope fallacy on gun control, why is it okay to use it on gun rights?

Do you have a reasonable argument or just more "send your kids to the M.E. " rhetoric?

America Pretending to care about morals to the world. Since America has a gun culture and this love fest for the NRA. Please drop the act.

As such.
-Pretending to care about Child Soldiers around the world at the same time your showing hypocrisy by allowing children to have guns.
-No respect for criticism.
-Your defense is a piece of paper written in 1787. The second amendment is misinterpreted.

The most important lesson for kids ad parents early on is you don't try to totally hide them from them. Keeping guns secret will make them more curious about them. They may even sneak a look at them while you're away.

Satisfy their curiosity is key to keeping them safe.

Use only with adult supervision.

"You want to see the guns thats fine, just ask and we'll look at them together."

You're right, it is misinterpreted. Though not by who you think it is.

Got my first firearm at 8 years of age. It was an Ithaca single shot drop block .22LR rifle.

Turned out fairly well. Depending on your point of view, I suppose.

No, I'm fine with this. Either it goes terribly wrong, people get shot a lot, and the gun-nuts are forced to admit they were wrong and that giving firearms to five year old children is a bad idea. (Though I might be being overly optimistic here, such people are very unlikely to admit they were wrong.)

Or, it makes things better, and everyone wins.

That you even connect the two, based on this law, shows how desperately you're reaching.
What criticism? All I've seen is hyperbole.
What part of this -
" the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
don't you get?
Exactly which part is being misinterpreted?

Why does there have to be a law for this? The motive behind this is pure evil. This is to force everyone to take up arms for protection. When is a "right" not a right anymore?

And we all know that there are no irresponsible parents out there, right? All parents are responsible citizens who will train their child properly and totally supervise their child at all times, right?

Right?

The right of people to keep and bear arms not being infringed is easy to do by making the sale of ammunition illegal.
There, easy. No infringement. But no ammunition.

Face it, an AR-15 isn't going to save you from a government that wants to become authoritarian. The defecting members of the military who fight for the citizens will.

The kind of people who will give their children firearms without proper instruction are probably the kind of people we don't want having children. Or guns. It's sad, but it's ultimately a self-correcting problem. Eventually, only the ones who don't shoot themselves (or were not given firearms to begin with) will be left.

Really, the ones who want this will be the ones who pay for it.
Until a toddler brings a pistol to a playground. That would be interesting.
Well, it's not like the law would have stopped such types to begin with, so it's unlikely to happen.

I would be totally okay if you had to get a license to have a kid. You already have to go through extensive hoops to adopt a child, you should go through the exact same hoops to procreate.

Wanna move those goal posts back to center? No one said anything about fighting the government.

This law would allow PROFESSIONAL firearms instructors to train children how to handle handguns safely.

We are discussing the second amendment, which I have been told time and time again isn't for hunting, it's for the citizens to be able to protect themselves from the government. (Which is why you can't get rid of semi/fully automatic rifles.)

Do you disagree with that?

"Currently in Iowa, children can legally use long guns and shotguns under adult supervision but not handguns. This bill would change that, allowing the use of handguns as long as parents are 21 years old and maintain “visual and verbal contact at all times with the supervised person”. "

Not what this guy said. It is for the handgun. Isn't that how that instructor was shot by that 9yr old with a handgun?

got my first shotgun around 7 or 8, was hunting on a regular basis by age 9... I have memories of sneaking in to look at the guns till my dad taught me how to handle them and saw what they could do, add in the hunter safety course and I never touched them again unless we were at a gun range or hunting, accept to clean them periodically.

As already mentioned remove the mystery before an accident happens.
