With Northrop wining the LRSB competition, Northrop is flying pretty high right now and this video they release today of B-2 glamour shots proves that.

Best viewed on a big screen with the volume all the way up.

....and for those that are going to ask, no it doesn't break the sound barrier at the :20 sec mark.

Pretty shots of the aft fuselage. Too bad they made damn sure everything was retracted.

I love the B2 because it look so damn alien compared to anything else in modern aviation!

Wait a few years, you'll see some stuff that will give it a run for its money in that category.

I can only imagine how stealthy that thing is at night.

You'd never knew it was there until it was long gone.

The B-2 really is one fantastic piece of engineering

I've had them go over about 500 feet, and didn't hear them until they were passing by me, in daylight.

And one of the things that made me laugh my ass off is that they put a special tape along the rivet lines. It looks like duct tape.

Now we know what Peter Jackson is up to these days.

Actually:

Fast forward to 3:20

On topic: This is an amazing piece of engineering. I struggle with this because it is a purveyor of death and destruction and that sickens me while at the same time I am impressed.

Would anyone know what they were seeing in the aft even if they left it the video?

"Oh there's some kind of different colored patch or something there...Hm, that could do a bunch of things...."

I mean, it's not like there's some painted on lettering, "HERE IS SECRET ANTI-CONTRAIL DEVICE"

When people don't even know the extent of a platform's capabilities, what good is hiding stuff that no one knows what it does? It only seems to me that it makes people scrutinize and seek out photos of the area more.

Dude, hiding in plain sight sometimes works way, way better.

Considering the B2 was started in the late 70's I don't doubt that for one second

The equipment in question isn't "a different colored patch", it's blatantly obvious that it's something interesting. They're not worried about the people that don't know what they're looking at, as they aren't the only ones that are watching these videos. It's the people that do know that they worry about seeing those parts. They also aren't hiding in plain sight, as everything is retracted, so there's nothing to see.

Communication antennas maybe?

Maybe for satellite communication?

There are several things on the aft fuselage that they don't want seen. When they park the aircraft they have to keep the aft fuselage hidden for 10-15 minutes to ensure that everything is retracted, and hidden before they can move it to where people can see it. When they'd come in to Hickam they'd put it under the ground control tower, with the aft fuselage pointing at the blast deflector, so you couldn't see anything, then when it was secure, they'd move to where they are going to park while they're there.
