gimp is a free open source art/photoghraphy project that should accomplish this as it has a save as file type export function that changes such formats

Take it outside and shoot the containing machine with a shotgun. You did say anything but a .swf so that would turn it into a trash file.

yes its a shock wave flash file, i can only guess the op cant open it, any web browser should open it or an offline flash player.

There is a free program I use called Freemake video converter. It does swf to any format iirc.

Can't link as I'm on the phone but google should help !!

I would try VLC, don't think Virtualdub handles swf

This and XMediarecode at Xmedia will Convert the file, VLC and browsers will only play it (if it doesn't require a special video player which some flash files do.)

While Freemake video converter is good, I don't use it because it isn't open source or true freeware. I use XMedia Recode for my conversions and have no complaints with it.

Sorry, meant to include the link for freemake in last post and forgot.

Here it is Freemake

Trying to give some choice rather than promote just the one I like.

Also, Gimp will not even open flash files so converting it won't happen. Plus it only works for Images not video (which flash is) The difference being that flash can be interactive.
