Looks like the GOP campaign to stop Trump started in earnest today.

Just now I watched Mitt Romney on CNN question why Trump is yet to produce his tax returns for the last couple of years.
Unlike other questions on the subject from many sources over the last few weeks, Romney went further.

He predicted that there was a bomb shell in Trumps taxes that could be:
- he does not earn anywhere near what he claims
- he does not give to any charities, like the veterans
- he does not pay his fair share of tax.

I think Romney was also on FOX saying the same thing, so he's doing the rounds ot get his message out there.

I think there are two plays here for Trump...

if his taxes are completely in order then he should keep everyone waiting and when the GOP hounds are at their most vicous, he produces them and completely pulls the rug out form under them, so that their future attacks have less effect.

if his taxes do have an issue in them, he comes clean now.

Whatever happens now, the knife being twisted by Romney was one he was twisting with a smile on his face. It was a very political move and was obvious in its intent.

Things are going to get even more interesting from here!

One thing I noticed is that Trump is remarkably silent on his Twitter feed.. he has not hit out at Romney at all....

I'm sure it wont effect him one bit.

By the way, isn't the IRS and federal taxes supposed to be evil and oppressive anyways?
Aren't Republican candidates like Cruz trying to get rid of the IRS?

Seems to me that very wealthy people are or have very smart people working for them and they find very clever ways of avoiding to pay the (immoral) tax.

I see Trump winning as per usual with this.

Romney. As if anyone wouldn't immediately see him as a corrupt sob.

No way people will care.

Just look what Bush and Obama got away with not to mention Hilary.

Now that Trump is all but the GOP candidate I can only wonder what dirt the GOP will dig up on him. Surely, if anyone has a lot of skeletons in their closet it's Mr. Trump.

It's funny to see the MSM talk about Trump's wins like their a natural disaster and at the same Cruz and Rubio talk as if they won.

Strange political times indeed!

Dont like trump.

But i would not trust any attempts at character assassinations from the establishment.

They will lie and forge evidence if needed,

Here's more... story breaking on news sites...

therightscoop.com...

The message is even stronger .. "we have good reason to believe there is a bombshell in trumps taxes"

Would be interesting to know who he means by 'we'.

Seems crazy that the GOP would be casting doubt on their front runner... you would expect this from the Democrats...

Smelly! Wont make a difference! TRUMPOTUS will happen because people want a change from the SQ of the last 50 years or more. And TRUMPOTUS can make that happen.

Were you watching a rerun? Trump on his taxes

That's from January, he WILL pay little tax he's said as much already and that can be seen on everything he's already released.

The fact that people in the establishment think his supporters who want him to build a wall, lower our taxes, fix our foreign policy deals, among other things will change their support because he paid the least amount of taxes as possible is just more proof that they simply don't get it.

We care about the issues, talk about the issues.

ETA:

On taxes, since I noticed your name, you might be from the UK. The myth of "tax dodgers" is just that. Their is no "fair share of taxes." You pay what you're due to pay, no more no less.

Any "Tax dodging" is called Tax Fraud and a federal crime prosecuted by the Federal Government. If he was guilty of any tax fraud, he'd already be in prison.

Personally, I couldn't careless what is in his tax returns. As long as his tax returns are lawfully completed that is all that matters. Romney should know better than anyone how tax returns can be taken out of context.

No - Romney has tweeted about it before but he is now out doing the TV rounds. He's been on CNN and FOX so far today that I know of...

He is also going in much harder saying "we have reason to believe there is a bombshell...."

I didn't use the word tax dodger. I am relaying what is happening today in the words of Romney.

At least make an effort to keep up without accusing me of re-hashing a month old tweet!

I'm just picturing the millions of Americans sitting at home trying to decide whether they want to vote for Clinton or Trump or Sanders or Cruz...

"I'll just wait till I see his tax return for 2015... Yeah that'll be the decider"

So funny when you really sit and picture these arguments.

I think you are way wide of the point.

The fact you don't think it will be a problem is pretty irrelevant. The point is that a republican, Romney, is on the attack and doing the TV rounds to cast doubt on their own leading candidate. Whether it will work or not is another question, but amazes me that he would be shining a light on it right now.

You know, after the NV caucus, it's pretty apparent that Republican voters favor Trump (not saying I do, just what I'm observing so far).

The GOP really, really wants to take the White House this November, and they might be able to pull that off IF they stop bickering among themselves and spending so much time on trying to destroy the one person who has a very clear majority among their voters. It should be obvious to the other candidates that most of the Republican voters are saying: Nope. Not you.

But instead of seeing the writing on the wall, banding together, and focusing now on the general election itself, they are wasting time, money and resources on trying to destroy Trump.

Rubio and Cruz will most likely milk it out until the RNC. Other GOP politicians will waste their time and effort in trying to destroy Trump.

Unless they stop it, it could most likely come back and bite the GOP in their collective rear ends.

I see this blowing up on the GOP and the Romney.

Trump is going to go on the attack on why the GOP whos number 1 issue was obamacare selected the guy who implemented obamacare 1.0. This will be become more fuel to his anti establishment followers and message .

Yes agree - they are going to infight all the way to the convention and the convention itself will be a blood bath full of dirty tricks. The country is going to reject the whole party iif they are not careful. I would not blame Trump if he burned them to the ground now and ran independent.

He is not legally obligated to release them rofl. Just like Clinton isn't legally obligated to release her paid speeches. Its all a distraction from the fact that our planet is hurtling thru the universe out of control and there is nothing we can do about it!

I don't get upset when anyone finds a way out of paying income tax. The very idea is evil and repugnant.

As if the Obama adminstration has not already had the IRS go over Trump's tax returns 100x from every year he has been required to pay income tax.
