Local government in Calais have today announced the southern camp at Calais will be cleared , notice will be served on Monday to residents of the camp who will have a choice between taking up one of the temporary shipping containers in the new managed camp or move on to one of the other reception centres in France.
Authorities say the camp would be cleared the following week and hope it can be done without having to use force , somehow I doubt that will happen.

Fabienne Buccio, the government's local representative said...

"The time has come to move on, no one must live in the southern part of the camp, everyone must leave this section," said Fabienne Buccio, the national's government local representative, estimating some 800 to 1,000 migrants would be affected.
“Now is the moment to seize the moment so that the migrants either return to the (northern state-controlled) camp or seek their way to other reception centres in France.”

But despite the improved living conditions the containers would provide, many migrants have been opposed to moving into them because it would require them having to have their palm prints taken, which could impede their efforts to reach Britain and apply for asylum there

It's about time France took charge of the problem instead of just letting it fester , it remains to be seen to what extent this clean up addresses the problem or whether it will be a temporary fix.

Is this a different part of the camp to the part that was cleared a couple of weeks ago?

What I find more worrying is that although we in the UK are told there are 6,000 there was a video posted here on ATS yesterday by another member and the lady who lives in Calais says there are 18,000 living there and that there is a muslim part governed by their own mayor and where Police arent allowed to enter!a reply to: gortex

I've heard.... they're seven feet tall! and Kill men by the hundreds. And if they were here, they'd consume the English with fireballs from their eyes, and bolts of lightning from their arse!!

I wasn't aware a part of the camp had been cleared recently but this is the tent village where migrants stage their attempts to get to England.

People have the right to be concerned by illegal migration , especially in these times of instability of our economy and fight against Daesh.

Oh absolutely.... totally agree mate.
It's just the "I heard that...." stuff gets a bit silly.

From Muslim no-go zones all over the UK, to now the police not going into one particular Muslim controlled area of the "jungle"
The police rarely go in there anyway... they don't care, French police handle the situation terribly all round really.
I'm sure they don't specifically not go into one area for any particular reason, they just don't go in much generally.

They get them to the camp and that's it. Turn a blind eye as they try and get on lorries and through the tunnel etc.

They are there because they can't enter Britain legally. Got a problem with that? Most Brits are only too grateful although many are happy to accept legal immigrants.

What are you on about?
I know why the camp is there, where did I state I had any issue whatsoever?
I replied to the guy/gal saying that police "aren't allowed" to enter one part of the jungle as it's muslim controlled and even has it's own "Mayor" which sounds utter BS to me so I quoted Braveheart to show how silly rumours and BS sound.

So... what are you on about?

We continually hear the bleat poor people stuck in Calais.

How about the poor locals whose stories aren't getting the same amount of press time. No one seems to care about the French people of Calais who are utterly fed up of this situation and aren't fairly represented in the press.

What about a thought for them because this has been plaguing their lives for a long time now. In the UK we only hear the odd whisper and see only what our government shows us which is always slanted that we should help these poor families etc. We hear very little about the crimes committed both in the camp and against French citizens in Calais.

that bit cos being English I don't scare that easily or stupidly. I admit my sense of humour is strained when it comes to Calais as I know a few lorry drivers who are sick as pigs over the situation there and the pressure these people can put them under. We use to nip over the channel a lot but now none of us go anymore because of the crime.

Apologies for being tetchy too much. You did hit the nail on the head about people deciding to go into a country but break its rules and put in their own, which is shaping up to be a continual source or irritation especially when it comes to dignitaries and sharia.

Yeah... A quote from Braveheart.
I posted that in response to the poster saying all of the stuff.
I've repeated this twice before now, this is the third time.

I didn't comment on the situation at all.... wasn't making any comment, merely pointing out that it was probably rumours about the "muslim Mayor" etc.

Except I literally didn't say that or anything like it.
I quoted another poster and replied to him

Do try and follow the thread and comments, it's not difficult.

Nowhere did I say I've heard if you read my comment I said I was concerned we are being lied to in the UK when we keep being told there are 6,000 in the camp but on this thread from yesterday and specifically the lady in the video who lives in Calais says therecare 18,000. Big difference in numbers but then I did say a few weeks ago the numbers dont add uo because we have been told 6,000 for months and yet we are also told it is expanding all the time and 150 new migrants arrive daily.

You should watch this video as it is a lady who lives in Calais and to her they may as well be 7 foot tall when she cant even go to the sea to visit her son's ashes and doesnt feel like the Police are protecting her and she also says there is a mayor on the migrant camp and Police arent allowed into the muslim area.

You excuse this with sarcastic comments and say the Police dont go anywhere on the camp like thats acceptable which it blatantly isnt. What happened to protecting citizens of a Country and law and order. Like she says the Police were happy to use their powers when it came to arresting protestors but seem to turn a blind eye when the migrants are using iron bars and knivex to terrorise locals and lorry drivers/holiday makers. In most peoples eyes that seems like migrants and No Border/anarchists are untouchable but then people arent allowed to protest about these illegals in a Country like France which was supposed to be the beacon of liberty and freedom.

I am also not some neurotic woman for having concerns about these people afterall it is the UK they are trying to INVADE. If the numbers grow anymore there will be a smalk army. It needs dealing with NOW. It seems all control has been lost already how much longer before already frightened British lorry drivers are killed?a reply to: blupblup

Yes they bulldozed part of the camp a couple of weeks ago to create a buffer zone to move the camp from the road side. People were moved to the containers there was a lot of protest by migrants and charities but it happened.

I just wondered whether this was a separate part or its just you have only just heard about it. Hopefully another part because IMHO they should bulldoze the whole area!a reply to: gortex

So you've seen the numbers in the camp? They do a head count in the video... we get to meet the Mayor and see the Muslim zone, police free and all!!

Or... you HEARD (which is what I said) the lady say in the video all of this stuff and decided that you found it all Worrying - Your words?

So you saw or you heard, which is it?

Where am I wrong in my post?

Just to say... I'm not actually debating the immigration issue, police tactics, local unrest, human rights situation, health and sanitation conditions in the camp or anything.

My entire point for posting was to say that unfounded, unverified rumours are stupid and dangerous and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
I posted the Braveheart quote as a way to jokingly make the point above, clearly reading comprehension on this site is at an all time low and I've had to spend 4-5 posts trying to explain the point and clarify my post.
It's not difficult.

This thread is about the "clearing" of the camp... so discuss that.
If you want to discuss immigration, police tactics, locals' feelings, the humanitarian crisis facing these people, the huge burden on policing and public services across Europe, why this camp is "Great" for Britain as it keeps "them" at bay... or any other issue or point, then make a thread and we'll have at it.

Here's a story here. One trucker was fined £40,000 for having ilegal immigrants sneaking aboard his truck and ruin £23,000 worth of produce:

Oh I know only too well your purpose of commenting in this thread like you said not to debate but rather to point out that anyone who has concerns is a bit neurotic rather than normal! Then the other usual tactic of "but its just one person saying that", "have you got personal evidence or I wont believe it" and all else failing "its just far right neo nazi propaganda".a reply to: blupblup

I've just seen this reported elsewhere so it is in fact a separate clear up to the one a couple of weeks ago. They have until next week to move. Looks like France are finally taking action but doing it bit by bit. They moved 1,000 migrants last time. They probably think they can manage 1,000 if they become violent. Anyway good news and about bloody time. Thing is now they need to stop migrants moving back to a different part of camp.

As far aas new migrants arriving hopefully there shouldnt be too many since France are still in a State of Emergency and hopefully are being more stringent about who they allow through their bordersa reply to: gortex

You say you are making a point about rumour and then to make your point you quote some derogatory remark about the English from a film about Braveheart? Wow how do you know that wan't rumour or poetic license also ourself or do you believe everything you see in films?

Rumour has nothing to do with the French decision to remove the camp at Calais which has been plaguing the locals there with crime and misery for a very long time.

More relevant to the thread than rumour is how long should an illegal camp of immigrants with no rights to get into another country be allowed to exist for?

Why enter the thread then if you are not debating the immigration issue, police tactics, local unrest...??

So not interested in an on-topic debate then, just a cheap shot that AnxiousWens is somehow in the wrong for sharing something she heard?

Who do you think you are setting the framework for the discussion in a thread you did not author??

On-topic, good on the French if they are breaking up this majority male camp of people who are refusing to register there because they wish to instead enter the UK illegally.
Bleeding hearts crying about how the discussion develops in this thread does not distract from the fact that those thousands of men are in a safe EU country refusing to claim asylum because they know full well that if they register in France then manage to enter the UK illegally they will be sent back to France.

So what are you gonna blub about now blupblup?

Lets hope the French break up that self imposed slum camp and all women and children are freed from the control of the males so they can claim asylum in France and receive housing and benefits.
The bleeding hearts are only empowering and enabling the thousands of males in Calais who are refusing to claim asylum in France while they control the minority of women and children.
