From that, one has to assume that what the coroner means, is that the body and feet became diarticulated after not only death, but significant decay had set in? I can buy that I suppose. It seems very odd though, that all of these feet should actually come ashore. The sea rarely gives back what she takes with such frequency.

And there in lies the mystery. It's too big for me to really comprehend without doing more research.

I live on the south west coast of the UK and this has happened quite a few times here as well.

Was any explanation, ie suicide, given by the local coroner?

Technically it's 4.572 metres. This is Canada after all.

Well, it is suggested that at least some of the remains may be suicides, although how one could come to that conclusion from the condition of a waterlogged foot is beyond me. Depending on the methodology used to force the mortal soul from its fleshly confines, at least a torso, neck, or arm would have to be found in order to make any such suggestion remotely based in fact, rather than in supposition.

As always, very well said, TrueBrit! Quite the humour as well...

Sounds like a reverse Cinderella story.....its natural the feet would detach at the ankle joint....
If they were all wearing Nikes maybe it was a whole basketball team that went down....?

Has anyone made an "if the shoe was on the other foot" joke yet?

Maybe a funeral home mishandling bodies?

No one really knows 'why' this is happening. I have my suspicions though. I'm sure it's not suicide, unless there is a dam linked to it. Possibly some psycho luring people in and then severing their feet for their own jollies.

Glad i don't live on the Island anymore.

Another foot has washed ashore in British Columbia. Clad in a shoe, the foot is the fifteenth of it's kind to wash ashore on the west coast since 2007.

Link.

Will this mystery ever be solved? Lots of theories, some more plausible than others, have been put forward. They're from Asian Tsunami victims; they're victims of a serial killer; they're the unfortunate people who managed to get swept out with the tide; HAARP did it; it's a government conspiracy.

This Wiki link has a map of where the other feet were found and some theory discussion.

So what do you think? Will this mystery ever be solved? The most recent foot can't have been a tsunami victim, as the shoe wasn't produced until 2013.

Personally, I think some might be copycat murders, but other than that, I really have no idea. I'd actually forgotten about the West Coast Floating Feet, but I think this is a good time to sink my teeth in again.

Have many homeless from that area disappeared in recent times?

Homeless people are always disappearing and showing up in the Vancouver area, definitely.

I'm thinking someone at the morgue or funeral home is playing funny bug'rs and taking the foot/shoe from the dead body then throwing them off a boat.

Hmm, maybe, but how would the detachment be made to appear natural?

well.. I suppose if the foots been floating long enough the tissue would breakdown
as long as he wasnt breaking bones and simply cutting the foot off at the joint.. then it would appear to have just.. fallen off?
